River rising clear during day with a lot of vegetation, weed and branches coming down. Nice to see quality barbel.

4 Barbel, 10 Chub

All fish caught on feeder and pellet or meat. River was low and very shallow on our side. Chub caught on near bank, barbel on far side. Really lovely beat with good signage and plenty of accessible swims.

Not a good day

Nice to be back on my favourite beat of the Wye for one final thrash. Had come to the beat the previous day to retrieve a lost net that one kind member has stashed in the hut for me ( many thanks). River had gone up overnight and had peaked 1.45 on Erwood guage and at first wasn’t sure if I was going to fish as quite swollen and coloured. Nevertheless I persevered though wading tentative as had left my flotation device at home, but was pleased I had wading stick with me. No salmon touched or seen but a lovely autumn day to be on the water.

i knew there was a pulse of water coming downstream, so made an early start to be on the river at first light...i was reckoning on about 6hrs before the water would start to rise. Took me a couple of hours to find fish...no where near where i found them in the past...right at the tail of the run after the stones, absolutely nothing in the faster water. Meat/pellet/corn all bought fish...barbel of around 6lb. Lost a bigger one at the net; if its a broken hooklength or a break at a knot you kind of take it on the chin...to lose a decent fish because a swivel snapped in half left me feeling a bit cheated. Water came at about 1.30...bites stopped..weed and debris didnt help...battled on for a couple of hours before i ran away.
