My final session for a few days on the wild streams !!! Thankfully a change of weather Is due in ... hurray!!!!! Mountain llyn time......Fished the lovely Aberedw beat, half twelve till four ... slow going initially!! Not the lovely "wallop" splashy rises of yesterday!! A totally different kettle of trout !! Fun though... as usual I stuck on the tiny dries ...
Weeeeeeeell, when the average depth of the river at the moment is probably twelve inches, dry fly tactics certainly reign supreme ...Lots of insects on parade by one , and, two of the trout I had today were to risers ...nothing huge, in fact the best of four was maybe pushing nine inches !!! Fun though..Although the usual pools didn't produce so much as a boil to my dry ...The fish were in the faster stuff, I did see trout in the deeper pools they seemed spooked... maybe the fresh otter prints along a lot of the beat ....Tarka may have had an afternoon stroll !!!!
I did spot another oil beetle walking down to the beat.... Many of this species are getting quite rare do placed him well off the road!!! Another lovely session on one of my favourite streams....Nearly stopped at the Wye at Builth, but, garden jobs to get nailed, before a pint in The Crown ...Happy Days !!!

One on a nymph and a beautiful young cock fish of about a pound and a bit on a dry. Large hatch of March Browns turned them on for about 45 mins at midday. Numerous takes but only one stuck. The afternoon was very quiet. Packed it in at 18:15 after falling into the drink and realising there would only be hyperthermia and misery in my future.

Turned into Very hot day though it took a while for the air temperature to rise.

Water was still very cold though there was the odd fly coming off throughout the day but the bright sunshine and clear, low water meant any fish we saw rise soon ran away when we fished for them. Managed to get two in the end, one on the Ginger jingler that had saved us a blank at Penpont on the last trip out, but with that fly ending up in a tree it was a little grey parachute that caught the second fish late in the day as we started to retreat to the car.

A difficult day but still great to be back outside after the long winter being stuck indoors. The river could do with some rain though.

Fish were taking well in the morning just under the surface. Not much rising. Fish were patchy but good fun once found.
All safely returned and largest just under 1lb.
Great fun thanks.
