The first day of a change in the weather brought a cold downstream wind, very little fly life and very few rising fish. Arriving at the Usk at around 12.30pm (after a look at the upper Wye which was even quieter), there were no noticeable hatches in the three hours I fished. Prospecting with a cdc olive emerger rose a few, with 4 decent trout to the net - 19", 15", 14" and 13".
Both rivers are desperately short of water and the rain that is forecast over the next couple of weeks couldn't come soon enough.

Weather was changeable, with varying wind, rain and sunshine. River very low and clear.

We caught 14 between us however, most of the fish were very small, and only 3 or 4 were of a reasonable size.

Most fish taken is faster water on a PTN.

Booked a weekly ticket from Sunday the 13th.
Arrived Sunday and set up at castle knights campsite, walking distance from the town bridge. Walked the river but didn’t fish it.
Monday - blank, nothing happening.
Tuesday - blank but lost 3, one on Griffiths gnat, two on PTN
Wednesday - caught six, lost four, all on klink and dink, ptn. Two of them absolutely smashed the klink. Ranged in size from tiddlers to a lump of around 2.5 lbs. Also lost a good fish that I didn’t see because it stayed deep but it felt heavy.
Thursday - caught eight, lost three. 6 on ptn under klink again and two on dries around 4-6pm. One took a emerger olive, one a size 18 f fly. Fish were smaller than Wednesday on the whole, up to about 1lb but mostly around 8 inches.
It’s been a great week, hatches of MB and LDO but not in large numbers. Some small black things about too. Didn’t come across a large fish taking off the surface all week sadly but the smaller ones that are are very picky, and casting is very challenging in areas so all good fun. Recommend it!
