Had a great day on this fantastic fishery, overcast conditions and a slowly dropping river were ideal conditions for the last day of our trip to the River Wye,after a few fish in mid morning things went quiet for a while before the fish switched on in mid afternoon,Barbel were mostly from 3-8 lbs with one larger fish of 9 lbs 6 oz,pellet and swimfeeder were the best method today.

Lovely afternoon by the river, the forecast was for cloud, and it was cloudy when I started, but skies cleared for a bright afternoon - not that it mattered. 2 Grayling - should have been 3… Caught on Duracell Nymph. The river was running clear and was teaming with juvenile fish, such a joy to see!
I know there has been a lot of complaints about this beat, I really think they are completely unjust. Yes the footbridge is closed, so are many in Herefordshire!
If you want to cross the river, get over electric fence at ///link.photocopy.emblem, then walk along the fence line to ///dispose.hexes.skip, and then wade a cross to other side or just start your wade from here upstream, you can wade all the way up back to ///supreme.flickers.kickbacks (when permissible). This part of the beat is easy going, no fallen trees, and should keep you busy for a good half a day if fishing thoroughly, and one of my favourite places on earth!
Yes, other parts of the beat are a little bit challenging, and overgrown, but this is the countryside, wild, natural and a haven and habitat for wild animals and fish! This beat would not be the same if it was perfectly manicured and sterile, and the fish probably wouldn’t like it either.
The owner has carried out some really sympathetic projects, replanting trees, gates that’s work, sensible insulated access across electric fences etc. which are great to see - I have seen a lot lot worse on other beats!
Perhaps we all could provide constructive feedback, and ideas to help fellow anglers, rather than just complain!

River seemed to have dropped a little but still plenty charging through. Fishing was slow in the morning so moved upstream to snare my only fish, a 6lb barbel on single 4mm ledgered halibut pellet.

Nice days fishing a few swims up from the car park. Not many bites, but all were landed. Averaged around seven pounds, with on at ten pound eight ounces. All in pristine condition.
