A beautiful warm and sunny day but the Wye was in flood, having gone up 6 feet since yesterday- the River level at Mordiford was 3.01 Metres on arrival. Very little choice of swims due to the very high level. We started in two swims at the downstream end fishing very close in but lost a lot of tackle in the bankside snags. One of us, not me, made the sensible decision to move to the downstream end swim and caught several fish. Best barbel 8.0 and 8.3 lbs.

River well up and coloured but steady. Fished the downstream end in the morning for a Chub and an Eel, before moving to the Upstream limit where I found the Barbel, which seemed to have a brief feeding spell of about an hour at midday. 7 and 9lb respectively. Also lost a Barbel to a hook pull.
Regarding the vehicle access to this beat; it would be stupid to attempt to drop down the track from the farmyard towards the river in anything but a good 4 x 4. The track is a literal river of Cowsh… and the field is a quagmire. I tried to park sensibly in the farmyard then took the short walk down.

Nice stretch with good parking, bit of a walk but good access and banks. River was high so fished slack water close in. Caught an eel on spam, switched to source pellet, had a barbel (3pm) 9lb. Good result for 3 hrs fishing!

Yellow rain warning and rising river levels so I didn't travel and fish

River up and challenging. We thought with colour and height that the fishing would be slightly better.
