Water very low but still some nice pockets. Fish caught on Hares Ear Bead Nymph and Red Tag Nymph. No rising to dry flies until around 10am.

First time fishing this fantastic beat, and it certainly lived up to expectations. As many others have already noted, the setting is beautiful and the fishery is exceptionally well managed. The variety of water on offer allows anglers to employ a range of techniques. I spent most of my time nymphing under a New Zealand yarn indicator in the faster runs and riffles. There was plenty of interest throughout the day, although only one fish ultimately found its way to the net. A special mention goes to Rachael, one of the owners, whom I met during my visit and who was incredibly helpful, welcoming, and accommodating.

Well up the river to find cool water. James had a good chat with owner Shaun who said there had been some excellent hatches at night fall. Unfortunately the temperature dropped significantly and nothing materialised by 9.15. Never mind we managed 6 nice fish on dries … best brownie 18” best grayling 14”. A few more bumped off including a couple under far bank trees after I had spent 20 mins getting in to position to cast to them. Grrrr ….

68 fish between two anglers today. All on nymphs due to little dry fly from weather conditions. Some lovely trout over a pound/pound and a half. Several beautiful graying into the 40cm range.dozens in the 30cms. Some difficult wading areas if unconfident. Owners are both lovely and helpful. Another angler on the water today was struggling, we lent him a few flies and with some guidance he doubled his days catch in 10 minutes! Scenery is gorgeous and if it wasn’t for even better fishing I would come back without a rod. 5⭐️

Flows and water temperatures still ok here (I measured 18 degrees C), and, after the kind intervention of owner Shaun and guest JL to educate me about Euro-nymphing, the fish were taking well deeper in the water column, and then again sporadically on the sedge at dusk (about 8-9pm). 11 grayling to 17" (three really good ones, including on dries), and one strong trout of 13", on a bloodworm(?) bead-head thing of Shawn's, and a size 14 Elk-hair Caddis. A delightful beat, and still bucking the drought/heat trend (ie. virtually no fishing for trout) elsewhere.

It seems that the low river level, clarity and relatively low water temp made today the most productive day I've had on this bit with some graylings PB.

Fished 12-7pm. Slowish in the afternoon, with a handful of modest trout to 12" and one grayling when fishing nymphs. About 5.30pm, the wind dropped and grayling started to rise to a prospected dry fly. Caught 4 nice grayling of 14-15" in this period.
Had to go at 7pm, and missed out on any evening action.

Another great day with slightly cooler weather a few hatches coming off in the day but having to switch between dries and nymphs constantly to make the most of the opportunities that presented themselves. A big thanks to Sean and Rachel for operating a great couple of beats and welcoming me to the river. With Shaun joining me, trout up to 2lb and best grayling over 50cm on the day all fish returned
