Lovely stretch of river to be out on. Saw a handful of sizeable trout. Sadly they didn’t want to be caught though.

Very clear water and quite low considering recent heavy rain. Tried various techniques for 6 hours, but not a sign of a fish. The most promising looking bit where the small river joins towards the top of the beat is not included for some reason.

The water levels were very low, probably a different part of the river would have been better.

Never saw a real fish all day. I'm sure they were there somewhere, but there was something of a coldish easterly wind blowing and nothing that I could put in or on the water was able to tempt anything other than a couple of parr like half-hearted rises. For anyone who hasnt' fished it before, there are some very nice sections to this beat, but they're interspersed with some quite long and featureless and not very deep pools that, in the absence of rising fish would probably have been better fished down and across with a team of wet flies a la Scottish method. At least you cover the water that way. I didn't have suitable flies with me though.

At the top of the beat the water gets a bit thin with the river this low, and the access seems a bit hit or miss, so I didn't go all the way to the top. But it's beautiful country up there.

Two trout (one a reasonable size) and four grayling, all on klinkhammers. A bright, sunny day, all fish caught in the shade. Wading/access generally easy. Was also lucky to see a circling kite.

We fished for 3 hours on a windy day - water levels were lowish and clear. It was a beautiful location but we didn't see a single rise nor indeed anything with fins at all ! We fished with single bug, bug with a dropper and prospected with dry fly to no avail. Decided to pack up at lunchtime to go and fish the Day House Beat on the Lugg which was the right call.

Squally and showery morning not helped by dog walkers. Not a sign of any fish in a fast-flowing peaty river. Wind gusts in the afternoon put an end to this novice’s attempts to fish New Zealand style.
