Lovely day on the river but very few insects - one of those days. Still a few fish rising here and there occasionally to midges - winkled a couple out on a size 20 Black Gnat but then ran out of my favourite pattern in the tree-lined banks and they wouldn't look at any others! One of those fly-fishing nightmares, I was running out and should have tied more... doubt it would have produced many more though. A few yellow mays coming off and had two bites on an imitation of those, but not hooked (tried nymph below NZ style and the dropper probably interfered; nymphs had no bites). One last fish on a small CDC caddis shortly before leaving but not much going on in the evening either. Still a lovely day to be out, had a couple of kingfishers zip right past me and the big colony of sand martin in the opposite bank of the downstream end was spectacular! Thanks for another lovely day out

On arrival nothing showing at all, but decided to prospect with dry flies. Caught steadily from just about every riffle then on, mostly small fish but the occasional bigger one.

Really fun session.

10 trout of which 3 were around half to three quarters of a pound. Caught on various flies: Waterhen Bloa, Hare's Ear Nymph, Partridge and Orange, Snipe and Purple. Beautiful day and scenery. Surfeit of birds: snipe, swallows, lapwing, dippers.

4 am dash over from Essex as conditions all seemed perfect. Levels 1'6" to 1'4" nice overheads. Chappel Catch down to water works looked promising with 3 good browns and a silver 1lb sea trout. Dolmeudwy and Orchard in the afternoon with another nice brown, silver small sea trout and a very lively Shad. Lost a possible Salmon in the bottom V after a strong run but can't be sure. A good species hunt anyway, all on a size 8 Cascade.
Note- Although I was on the opposite bank the Llanstephen bank is looking very overgrown and would be a tricky fish I think.
