A quick couple of hours as I was in the area, and I didn't really do it justice. A lovely varied beat, felt soles required and plenty of runs to target. A few LDO's about, and a couple of risers. Just fished a duo, for 1 small brown to the nymph and a missed take on the dry.

Very cold wind gusting to 35mph and 6.5C start. Wind whipping up ripples on surface of water. Casting difficult. No rising fish. Persevered with nymphs but no luck on this occasion.

Fished from 3:30pm until 6pm, so only a short session. Sunshine and cloud, with a cold easterly wind. There was an occassional olive coming off during this time, but didnt observe any rising fish along the whole length of the beat; not unexpected given the time of year and horrible east wind. One 12 inch WBT caught from a pool in the wood at the top of the beat on a sz22 orange collar PTN, fished under a yarn indicator. Its been nearly 2 years since I fished here last, and lots has expectedly changed through winter storm/flood damage. Most worryingly though, all of the wonderful ranunculus above the foot bridge has completely disappeared to be replaced but horrible green weed. This is not a good sign, and I echo worries of pollution damage also noted in a recent catch report. I hope i am wrong, but fear im not. Despite this, it still remains a wonderful place to fish.

River quite high compared to previous visits. Despite the sun a very cold day. Caught a nice size grayling on a beaded hairs ear nymph below a klink, two small trout about an hour apart. Quite a busy hatch about 12:00 but no takers. Had the occasional snatch on my klink but nothing to indicate a switch to dries. Did I mention it was very cold ?

Blanked. A stark contrast to our day on Penpont a few couple of weeks ago! Just one of those days where it feels like there’s no fish in the river. Didn’t see a fish rise all day despite a sparse hatch in the afternoon.
A note on the wading on the beat. It is currently extremely slippery underfoot even with felt or studded soles. The bedrock and river bed is covered in brown algae which is absolutely treacherous.
A beautiful beat nevertheless.

First time fishing this beat. The brook looks lovely and for a wild stream the access was reasonable. Level was good and the water was slightly cloudy with a whitish tinge. I fished probably about 3/4 of a mile of the beat mainly on a single nymph or a pair. Tried a dry fly on a few occasions. I had absolutely no interest to either dries or nymphs and saw absolutely no sign of fish. Having looked at the catch returns it makes me wonder about the fish stocks as on a stream like this i would normally expect to find fish even if small. As a personal observation fishing seems to be getting poorer year on year.
