Decent day with tough conditions, river running low and clear along with a downstream breeze. 4 Fish in the early morning, biggest around 1.5lbs. Fished the riffle water near the middle of the beat and connected with 3 big trout, unfortunately failed to convert them to the net. Seems to be fishing well but needs a stealthy approach!

Fished in the afternoon after heavy rain. Took me a while to crack the code - a small, slim, dark-bodied nymph with a pink bead eventually got them interested. Caught three trout and lost the biggest one (as always).

What a difference a day makes given the disappointing report from the previous day. Our first time on this beat. The weather probably helped us … a soft day with warmth when the sun appeared. There was a blizzard hatch of sedges 13.00 to 14.00 with a continual trickle thereafter … together with occasional March Browns olives and hawthorn flies more than enough to keep the occasional fish looking up. We had 11 in total …. 2 at 20 inches, 2 at 16 and the rest down to 8”. Probably twice as many long range catch and release as we brought to hand! I got in to the tail of a pool late afternoon with 4 fish rising … every one took my size 14 red parachute but then managed to throw the hook. As much in despair as anything I fished further down the run against the far bank to get walloped by the 20” fish coming out of nowhere. Great fishing! We had a visit from the friendly farmer in the evening too, always a pleasure to meet the owners. Many thanks.

Not a thing all day. No rises. No bites.
Bit sad there is so much hardcore in bits of the river here.

Sadly we had a very quiet day. The weather was cold & dry and the river was very low.

Downstream wind made upstream fly difficult. Kinked and dinked hares ear got the one fish in the rapids.

River very low and gin clear, somewhat reminiscent of a Hampshire chalk stream. Good hatch of March Browns from 11am for about an hour. Fish not really consistently rising to them and very hard to cover in glassy clear water. Tough day on the river.

Very quiet, low, clear water with a cool northern wind. Fish rising occasionally, very sporadic unfortunately.
