Beautiful stretch of river, lots of diverse fishing opportunity if water was slightly higher. Overcast throughout mid-morning so a few rises spotted, 1 caught on PTN fished just below surface, and one on black gnat. Both returned

Caught on a PTN. Really tough going. No hatch all day so just sporadic rises. Don’t go through the wooden gate as the instructions suggest just go down the path to the right of the small house down from Ashford. The beat doesn’t have much character tbh. Also some posh guy in a land rover tried to tell me I couldn’t fish there. Didn’t help the vibe

Bright sunshine and low water made for tricky conditions and spooky fish in the day. Steady hatch of duns and the odd mayfly. Great evening rise but couldn’t match what they were feeding on. One nice fish of 1.5lb at the death on grey duster, others on PTN.

We only fished the evening, which was grey but still and there were consistently rising fish who proved willing and eager. Great fun. We found a Leeda landing net in the reeds in the middle of the beat. Left it closer to the path around the middle of the beat expecting to collect it on our way out, but we left by a different route.

A grey, damp day, with fish only rising sporadically in a few spots, but we had fun

River definitely benefitted from the recent rain. Overcast conditions, with a gentle breeze. An intermittent hatch of olives with the occasional mayfly over the course of the morning but only the martins were showing any interest. Teased one BT from the bottom of the Blue Pool on PTN. Heavy rain in the afternoon put paid to any further surface activity.

This is rapidly becoming my favourite beat. Masses of space for 4; styles etc. very well maintained; access points to the water are limited but, once in, the wading is easy and you can cover lots of water. A lovely mix of fast runs, glides and pools. My only issue is that in front of Ashford House is the only feasible parking spot. It is a long walk back to the car from the top of the beat for lunch!
