What a scorcher! Just out for the evening …. Fish spooky as usual on this beat, difficult to rise but they did seem to like what I think were potamanthus … yellow mayflies … when they hatched. As others have said access to the river isn’t easy but if a 70 year old can do it…. Best fish 15”. A massive spinner fall at dusk….

Nil return! We laboured under a bright and exceptionally hot sun, and then had to leave before what looked to be a promising evening rise. A fabulous beat, but with very challenging access - not one for those with limited mobility!

Difficult day with bright sunshine all day, so no rises until very late on and then the fish were 'out of reach'. Nothing on the numerous nymphs I used either so drew a blank!

One highlight though, which did nothing to help with the fishing, I did have a very close encounter with an Otter, which appeared just behind me as I was sat on the river bank at the top end of the beat. It was less than 12 feet away and obviously hadn't seen me and just trotted into the river, did a barrel roll and a couple of up and downs and was gone, fishing!

Windy and bright at times. Plenty of fly life at times. Fish pretty choosy.

Lovely day fishing dry flies in a wonderful setting. Two trout to the net but when a big one came along it threw the hook. Typical!

Lots of insect activity and surface action right from the start. At times it was difficult to know what certain fish were taking as there was such a variety of fly on offer. The best of the fishing was when they were firmly locked onto Olive Uprights, but the fish were feeding on smaller upwings later in the afternoon. A good day, with 7 nice fish to 16”, fell agonisingly short of spectacular due to 4 breakages by much larger fish.

Did not fish - the BBC weather forecast for Talybont was heavy rain for several hours overnight, and then thunderstorms for half the day which looked very dangerous as well as unfishable. So I did not risk heading up from Devon and booked Dany Y Parc for the next day instead. Turns out I could have fished Ashford House after all though as apparently neither the heavy rain nor thunderstorms materialised! Will have to stop using the BBC weather forecasts as they have been absolutely hopeless for the Brecon Beacons recently - also very wrong for the next day predicting lots of light rain but there was not a drop. Still, Dan Y Parc fished very well so all's well that ends well!
