Great days fishing, plenty of grayling to 2lb, lots of small trout plus one chub of 4.2lb, all taken on the pin.

A great day on Sunday, although it was one of the first dry days we'd experienced, meaning the ground was still very wet and the water high and coloured. Despite the conditions and, as we were there, we decided to crack on and give it a go.

Fishing every method in the armoury, and after searching nearly the whole beat, we were unable to connect with anything fishy, a product of the high waters, but it was good to introduce a friend to this water and great to be out after so much time away thanks to the rain.

Thanks to all at WUF for helping me take a day's fishing at Cefnllysgwynne. The river was rising steadily during the day and was too high & coloured to fish by the end. I managed to winkle out a solitary grayling on maggot early on so all was not lost.

Arrived in the drizzle to find the Irfon pretty high and coloured. Debated whether or not to have a cast and as ever hope got the better of experience.

Both rods fished heavy and brightly coloured bugs and were rewarded with 2 grayling 6" and 9" and one out of season trout at 9". Certainly more than we expected.

Saw a half eaten hen salmon on the bank (otter?) and heard a report of another salmon supper on the beat. For a river that has had its problems it's encouraging to see salmon reaching the Irfon to spawn.

2 grayling 0.75lb + 1.75lb - 2 brown trout 1.5lb + 2lb - 3 salmon parr. All fish returned.

First time out on this beat. Nice stretch of water indeed. River up and fast flowing. Searched out most likely grayling spots in the prevailing conditions. Really mild winter´s day. Tempted 6 juvenile grayling (4¨-6¨ class) and another of 12¨ plus 2 out of season browns. Mainly on pink shrimp patterns of various shapes/sizes. Looking forward to returning under lower water conditions.

Arrived early to sleety rain and very cold temp. The water was clear, but running high and fast which made wading in some of our favourite runs impossible. PJ managed 3 good Grayling to approx 2lb and a couple of other tiddlers. As for me, "my first blank"! PJ caught his fish not more than a rods length out on heavy tungsten headed bugs.

High level of water, almost impossible to fish, but I have tried it...no touch, no fish.

7 Grayling upto 1lb 9oz, most over the pound mark. 2 small Brown Trout, 1 Salmon Parr of 6''.

All fish taken in 2 hours before the river got coloured up, on bronze maggots on the bend by the church. Most swims were flowing too fast to present a float very well.

Water a little higher than I've fished before and very slightly coloured ("tea without milk"). Managed 9 grayling (including a beautiful 18" fish and four baby "Graylets") & 3 small WBT. Fished the top end of the beat with up stream nymph and bugging - new water to me but just as appealing as the lower end. Thanks WUF for getting me absolutely hooked on winter grayling sport!
