Very challenging fishing. Very low water levels. Hardly any rising fish with a strong up stream wind. The only fish I could cast to were at the back of the deeper pools. Wind dropped off in the afternoon and managed two very nice wbt around two pound mark. Two otters on this beat. I will be back next year, a truly stunning stretch of river. All the fish came to nymphs!

Found the river with a bit more flow than a couple of weeks ago but still very clear. Managed to catch a couple of nice grayling around the pound mark on GRHE nymph with a black bead head which I prefer in clear bright conditions. A lovely stretch of water with a rocky bed that I would recommend to anyone but I would take a wading staff next time if I am to avoid another ducking!

After 2 days of heavy rain the river was up about 3ft and colored, it probably would have qualified for a wash off.
However the level was dropping and clearing, so with a little optimism I fished the stretch. The river was definitely in flood. But it was fishable and there were good numbers of Caperer on the bank side vegetation, though few ventured out on to the water. Most of the runs were buried under the water, although the tails of the pools provided some hope, but no fish.
The best way to learn a river is to fish it in all conditions. It is a lovely looking stretch and on that I look forward to seeing in slightly better conditions.

Arrived to find a quite substantial hatch of Ldo's, Blues and some Sedge breaking off from the puddles that was the left bank fishing. Then it rained. I didn't fish the right bank. Blank.

A misty start followed by a warm, still day. River very low and clear. Four browns (10-12 inches) from the deeper faster pools on gold-head GRHE nymph, and one lovely 2lb (18 inch) brown on a dry (CDC Compara). Five fish in total; no grayling. Some big browns seen in shallow runs. A beautiful beat. A morning session.

Out first visit to the Irfon. Water levels low with weather overcast but warm. Moderate fly life in evidence but little surface activity. The Llanfechan stretch is magnificent with as much variety of fishing pools and runs as you could hope for. Wading in chest waders was comfortable. Only one fish was caught but what a fish. A beautiful WBT of 3 to 3 1/2lbs. caught on a dragonfly nymph that looked uncannily like a small fry pattern! We will return in the Autumn to search out some grayling. A great day's fishing even with only one fish caught.

I fished as a guest of the new owner Dai Gingell for a couple of hours and I was immensely impressed with the 'fishiness' of the water. I only fished sporadically but had two trout. The first was certainly a pound plus and put up a heck of a fight on my #4 rod. I rather assumed this was exceptional but my next fish was even bigger and could have made a pound and a half and took line from my reel as it went up and down the pool. Dai followed this up with a fish on a small nymph which like my brace gave a very good account of itself. Stunningly pretty water and great fishing.
