A very bright and sunny day so not much in the way of action! The holiday cottage on the downstream side of the bridge was occupied so I only fished upstream. The pool by the undercut bank was occupied by some cows so I was unable to fish this section from which I had previously caught. The next fish-able section contained an otter so there was nothing seen in that location either. Pushing further up the river saw a couple of rising fish. Both fish spotted rising were deep under the tree cover making casting challenging. I was unable to see what they were rising to so tried a size 14 deer haired humped mayfly imitation and succeeded in landing a small (8-9 inch) WBT. I also manage to miss the second fish on the same pattern. A lovely day but the prevailing conditions were not really in my favour.

Thousands of May flies on the water but not a trout in site. I covered the full stretch and saw one fish rise the entire evening

An excellent day of guided fishing with Oliver Burch of Wye Valley Fly Fishing. My first attempt at river fly fishing so the advice and guidance was invaluable. River was 0.5m on the gauge and a good flow. Missed one fish from the pool by the holiday cottage. All fish were taken upstream of the bridge. All bar one trout fell to nymphs. The last trout was taken on a small dry may fly imitation late afternoon after observing some sporadic rise close to the far bank This also gave Oliver the chance to sort out my wayward casting! A great day in a fantastic location.

1 out of season graying at the beginning of May?? Phosphate levels through the roof?? This river is dying. So sad to see a complete lack of fly life and no rising fish. Hope to see these rivers improve in my lifetime.

Nothing caught. Seeing other returns on here, I hope this is not the shape of things to come. A beautiful location. Let’s just hope the river isn’t in decline.

Lovely day on a very peaceful and well kept beat - although nb WUF that stile immediately upstream of the bridge has rotted and is on the point of breaking. Grayling mostly small but pretty feisty nonetheless - and a couple of 12 inch fish. And very pleased to get my first trout of the season - despite the cold. All in the bottom foot on small flies on the French/Spanish leader.

Many thanks to WUF and proprietor. Will definitely be back.

A tough but enjoyable day. River gin clear and low. Fished both euronymph and indicator for 8 grayling. Deeper pools being the most productive

My first time fishing Lyepole and I wasn't disappointed. A lovely venue, beautiful river and stunning surroundings. The hills protected me from the biting Northerly and it was pleasant all day. The river was very low and crystal clear so all the Grayling were shoaled up in the deeper pools above and below the bridge. I caught consistently through the day mainly on trotted bluebottle emergers but as I had taken my Nymphing rod I gave it a go after lunch and had a few smaller Grayling Czech Nymphing. I ended up with 23 Grayling from ounces to a pound plus averaging around the 12 ounce mark. The only company I had all day were the Dippers and Robins, just perfect.

Brilliant day, 9 grayling to the net all in the space of 2 hours then the bite went off. Estimated between 500g and 1.8lb. Fished a total of 5 hours. River is beautiful, fantastic scenery and great fun even with no wading permitted there are some swims fishable from the bank. Method was mostly euronymphing they went for a self invented and tied nymph pattern with one fish caught on klink and dink PTN nymph.
