Recent heavy rain had left the river looking like coffee. 0.63 on the gauge, have fished it higher, but never with such poor visibility. Should have stayed at home but had already booked the beat and the day off work. Poor access on this beat when you can’t wade it all safely.

Did manage a nice graying on the euro rig before calling it a day

River carrying extra water, 0.63 on the Byton gauge when checked at 7am, but fining off and with some colour. The grayling were in the 9-11 inches range, pink beaded nymph accounting for most.

Water was on the high side and very coloured and pushing through. For me this was hard work today with little reward despite working through many techniques, flies and salutations to the piscatorial deities. Just not my day, ho hum.

A day at Lyepole always lifts my spirits. I agree with others, the river is carrying an odd milky colour. I didn't encounter a trout all day. However, I discovered the Grayling could be tempted from the depths with small, light coloured dries. (I went for light because I could see them.) Great fun, many aborted rises or missed takes but I had five to hand - all in the region of 8-10 inches.

First time on this beat of the Lugg, trip was curtailed due to late arrival because of road closures in the local area and having to get back for baby grandson duties. So, just a quick recce of this interesting stretch of water, still carrying the milky grey colour. No fish but will definitely return early next season. Absolutely beautiful setting.

Had a great day on the River Lugg at Lyepole. Access was not easy but once on the river searched out areas of faster water. The gloomy morning turned into a sunny afternoon. Fished from 11.30 to 16.00.
One trout was caught on a spider pattern . All other fish were caught on a single size 16 bead head nymph. Had five long distance releases. All the fish were in the 6 to 10 inch range. Had a lovely close encounter with a mink which walked around me as I struggled to get line though the hook eye. Really enjoyed the day.
Thanks to the foundation for great information and really easy booking, I hope to book further days in the future.
