Fished Cadora Backs today with another guest salmon angler. Unsurprisingly given the conditions, we had a nil return. Some fish showing which may have been grilse but were probably large trout. Had a conversation with Nathan the Ghillie from the downstream beats which was interesting. There is little to attract fly only anglers to this beat under these conditions apart from Cadora pool. Canal like water in the rest of the beat but there was a better flow when I visited a few months ago.
Note to the owner. The rotting sheep carcass just above Cadora pool needs to be removed.

12 lb stale cock and 4 lb fresh grilse this am . 8 lb stale cock yesterday evening. Plenty of fish showing but water still too high and coloured for ideal conditions. Seasons total still a meagre 9 salmon though fishing effort has been low for a number of reasons

Fisher and guest. River levels very low and water very clear on arrival around 9.00am.
Levels rose considerably by mid afternoon - accompanied by copious amounts of debris an leaf litter.
One (likely resident) salmon hooked but it shook the hook after a couple of minutes.
Other fish showing on the surface through the day - all deeply coloured.

Saw a few resident fish but apparently water too low for them to be tempted by me at least. Felt like I was in with a chance though despite low water

Angler and guest fished the beat. Plenty of leaping fish in the river. Local guy explained they were likely to be resident fish. Cadora run and pool look most likely places but no takers of either fly or spinner.

My first time fishing this beat.
River levels and temperature were about right to raise hopes of tempting a salmon. Not to be on this occasion unfortunately - although i did see several good sized fish during the day.
