Fished from 10.30pm until 3am. It was a clear but warm night, with no cloud cover and getting towards a full moon. There were a few people on the main (lower) beat so I fished the pool below Manordeilo railway bridge rather than trying to get in at Crewil Pool. As noted in another catch return, the Railway Bridge pool is full of very small WBTs but I didn't target them in case I disturbed the Sewin. There weren't many rises all night, although a few probable school fish showed in the lower belly of the pool and a 4-5lb Sewin jumped a couple of times under the trees half-way down the pool. I was told that somebody had hooked and lost a similar sized fish in the same place a couple of nights ago. I don't know whether it was the same fish but it certainly didn't show any interest in the flies I presented to it.
I started off with an intermediate line fishing a black/silver tube on point and alternating a teal blue & silver, yellow peril, daioni and Alexandra on the dropper. I switched to a sink tip later on, but kept the same fly combinations. I didn't manage to catch any fish in the end, although did get a few pulls (some of the earlier ones could have been brownies). Given that this is a new beat for the WUF it would be really good to see advice from other anglers on tactics (pools, flies, line etc).
Worth noting the warning about the level crossing with no lights/barriers. The view over the crossing really is obscured. There are only 4-5 trains a day, but there is one that comes through the crossing between 20:45 and 21:00 (earlier on Sundays), so could coincide with arriving at the river if fishing for Sewin at night. You can check train times on National Rail Enquiries (Llangadog to Llandeilo stations and vice versa).
