not a huge choice of swims with the current height (2.5 at Mordiford)....but some slack water at the end of the woods gave me a great days sport. a slow morning but had a couple of crazy hours after lunch when it was a bite a chuck. lost a fair few by trying to bully them out of the snags and brambles that come with fishing in high water, including a decent barbel. nice to back on the water in some warm sunshine. meat, pellet, bread and cheese all got me bites.

River very high and rising.....really pushing through but we found a couple of slack areas that were fishable. Quite a short day though didn't get started until 9.30 and with the weather worsening we left at 3pm.

cold, clear and falling river...so i kind of expected it would be a chub day and went armed with plenty of bread and cheese. plenty of fussy little bites in the morning and 6 chub around 1-2lb mark. then 4 hours of total stillness - and then had six decent fish 3-4lb in late afternoon. Most came to bread - either on float or feeder - fished the first couple of swims in the woods. kingfisher sat within yards of me picking off fry at my feet...he was way quicker than my phone's camera!

On arrival though river although high and pacy looked great ( 1.69m at Modiford ) second cast had Chub of about 4 1/2lb , then made journey over heart attack hill and fished field and one swim in woods, I covered a lot of water and some of the Chub took a few attempts before properly taking meat !

Cracking beat and first time Barbeless on here but Barbel seemed totally illusive on this trip ? Again dog peg and rope are essential. Most Chub about 2 1/2 accept 2 , all on meat .

Can’t wait to come back and try again !

A hard days fishing but eventually found the fish in far field. Caught on meat and pellet. Fish switched on around 2pm.

I would say with all the recent wet weather. The banks are dangerous and would be advisable to have spikes and rope for safety. For this reason this will probably be my last visit this season.
