1st time on this stretch decided to fish the woods and tackle the climb round. Weather was a fair bit cooler than of late and the river painfully low. Started about 2pm and fishing my usual baits & tactics was expecting the ravenous chub to be crawling up the rod! Not to be the 1st fish I had was a barbel about two hrs later on corn bounced through the swim. Had a couple of chub one of which snagged me as I was answering the call of nature and took about 10mins to free after patiently waiting to release itself. Finished off around 7pm with a barbel just shy of 8lb when the bait again was twitched through the swim this also snagged me temporarily in a different area to where I’d been casting on the far side! When fishing here I’d strongly advise using drop off/breakaway leads and suitable tackle as all the stretches I’ve fished this season on the W&U this has been the worst for snags! Enjoyable day and would return here but unlikely to fish the steep wooded area in the wet!

This beat has always produced some of the best fishing I’ve ever had on the wye , but today was a different story. The Wye , Severn and Teme are surprisingly low for this time of year , which always brings a challenge .
Very hot today but kept at it , lots of bites on the feeder rod but only a few good takes , which one of I lost . This stretch is fantastic for trotting and has given me many great days on the float here . Only managed two nice chub on the float but a valiant scrap form both . Barbel came at dusk , a long wait for the whiskers , but happy to have one in the net .
Although not a blank a very challenging day indeed , still love this place , always a pleasure being here .

Made the decision to climb the hill and fish the faster/broken water in the woods first thing. On the bank and fishing by 6am.
3 Feet of water, 2 Feet of Chub, unbelievable number (i've reported 30 but TBH stopped counting after 20). Bait (mainly Pellets) was being hit on the drop. In fact i'm only just slightly exaggerating when I say I swear one jumped out of the water and caught it in the air :-) Some cracking chub in amongst the half pounders. Glueing multiple pellets together help reduce the numbers and give the Barbel a chance to find the bait. Lost 2 barbel in the rocks which was very frustrating.
In the afternoon decided to move back to the swims by the hut (to avoid the climb at the end of the day) had two good chub 4lb - 5lb and a few smaller, and two small Barbel.
Water had colour but very little weed in swims that used to have it to hold the fish

Feeder fished pellets but only limited success, as we have not fished the water before this was more than likely down to us rather than any problems with the water

I had a look in the wood but decided to fish the second peg below it. It was quite safe in dry weather but I think you might need to be careful there in wet conditions. However, I caught 22 chub but only one barbel all on Hinders Elips pellets and 8m Robin Red. All fish came from the same swim. At one point I could hardly put the rod onto the rest before a big chub ripped off with it.

My landing net handle split at about 8pm so I had to sadly call it a day a bit earlier than I planned. Judging by the noise the barbel were making towards dusk, I would have hoped for at least one more.

It is a fifteen minute walk to the wood from the car park, with some fairly steep bits. But worth the effort.
