Rainy day on and off hail. River pushing quite fast and not many fish showing. Hooked into a grayling but he shook off the hook. Slow day.

Strong winds, hard going. Trickle of flies coming off but no fish rising. Both fish on trusty PTN. Accessed beat for lower parking at the footbridge. I wouldn’t recommend accessing the beat from the track along the north bank. Wasted a lot of time trying to get down to the river, reckon it will be impassable later in the season when the vegetation gets going. Across the footbridge and path along right bank is a much better bet. Lovely pocket water, along upper section.

Looking back, my first 0 catch return on the Wye in nearly two decades.
Overcast, misty, 7.5-9 air temp, 7.5 water temp. Fished 9:30-1
0.66 on Ddol Farm gauge

3 fish hooked and lost, 2x small and 1 very large trout after it jumped landing on the line, largest I’ve hooked on the Wye (ah the one that got away :-) All fish in faster water with the big trout in a tiny packet surrounded by white water in the middle of the river.
Some fly life at mid day.

Coming from the upper parking, taking the path river left-side, the path down to the river before the house does not appear to be there any more.
I found this some of the most challenging wading of all the beats on the Wye. Sure there is obviously challenging wading elsewhere with boulders and rocky gutters but this beats challenges were less obvious. Look at the water, make a plan of entry, fishing sequence then a couple of safe exits. But those plans got thwarted pretty much every time with the planned exits not being viable when in the river.

I only fished the upper 3rd of the beat due to my slow progress on the wading front.

I’ll definitely be back to this beat as it has huge potential.

Fished approx 10am till 2pm. After a few months of rain, the river had mostly run off. Still highish at 0.55m on the Ddol Farm Gauge, but was very clear and wade-able in places. Water cold.
Fished the top section of the beat, using a variety of nymphs on mono-leader set up. Caught one good brown trout, about 1.5 lbs, but did not find any grayling.

9th Nov 25 - Wye FPP Doldowlod - 0.732 and just starting to rise. Water clear at start but coloured a little as day went on. Felt quite hard going, all fish on euro nymph. Super tricky wading, staff an absolute must. Lovely water, will be nice to see in the summer.

Quite tough wading with the river at 0.78 on the Ddol Farm gauge. Challenging fishing and no fish caught.

The path marked on the beat map to get from the top parking back down is practically unusable, especially in waders + with a rod. I would advise heading down the road where there is a wide mown verge + the WUF should have a look or maybe change the advice on the map

Hard going and a beat that most definetly requires studded soles (which I didn’t have) managed 2 Grayling, one small and one of around 12-13 inch, also an out of season trout which was released very quickly with almost no handling. All caught on a pink hothead nymph.
