Yesterday saw my first days fishing for 30 years at Doldowlod. As I stepped onto the suspension bridge I could hardly believe my eyes glimpsing 2 beauties rising on the surface below me. One about 20 and the other I politely guess around the 40 mark. I am not referring to lbs weight, but the ages of the 2 stark naked ladies taking their early morning dip in the Wye. Any way my general fishing below this boundary bridge saw few fish rising, only 3 grayling and 2 trout to 1/2 lb caught on a dry red tag. Back above the bridge, big grayling, and I mean loads of them were seen rising all over the shop. One might even have been a salmon. Such a shame the WUF don't let the entire estate along with the premier pools where we once caught grayling and salmon by the shed load. Perhaps you can advise me who does let the better maintained fishing on those more productive autumn pools like the upstream Argoed and Red Pool or the bottom end Sand and Fish pools.

Rain overnight and all day made it very difficult fishing. No dry fly activity at all so used Gold head PTN to try to get down to the fish. Did hook and lose fish (3) but no fish landed. Looks a lovely river and would like to fish it in better conditions.

Large hatch began mid morning which continued for most of the day but very few fish were showing. We took 1 WBT approx 1lb and 2 OOS Grayling, largest about 1 1/2lb fishing dries to showing fish - all were safely returned.

No fish caught - one hooked and lost. Access to fishing difficult - trees line most of banks, wading difficult due to deep or fast water, access to main channel therefore also difficult. Doubtful that we will fish this beat again.

A hard but enjoyable day with a sleet storm to start with. However, the weather improved and a good hatch of March Browns appeared between 2pm and 3pm. Very few fish rose however, but the day was saved when a 19" grayling was caught on a wet fly and returned.
