Overcast mild day with light upstream wind. Heavy rain the night before. Started with dries at noon.
Conditions looked good but by 1pm only the odd fish had risen and very few olives coming off. I managed to take 1 trout on a dry.
Decided to try a nymph but had no interest after about an hour.
The temperature was rising and the odd fish rose so went back on a dry. Had a few refusals and after several fly changes got a hook up, sadly it came off. After a few more refusals and no more signs of fish I called it a day at about 3pm.
An interesting and somewhat frustrating day.

Prolific MB hatch at 1430 for around 40 mins. Seemed to be taking emergers - they ignored every surface MB pattern I had but two eventually ate a small black klinkhammer.
One fish of 16inches (but remarkably fat for this early in the season), one of 15, and the remainder smaller - 7 in all.

Caught one good-sized fish on CDC dry fly during brief hatch of olives at around 1.00pm. Other fish caught on PTN while waiting for the rise to get started. Fish in good condition and returned safely.

Very strong downstream wind made life difficult, particularly when using dries.
Olives started coming off around noon but where I was fishing no fish were showing.
As I moved upstream I saw rising fish and caught my first fish, on a nymph but then changed to dries and caught 2 more. By 2pm all rising had stopped and so did I.
A hard day for casting and also for seeing the dries but worth the visit.

The eagerly awaited lunchtime hatch of March browns was postponed until 2.15pm but this sparse hatch did stimulate a rise. Hooked 3 fish on a dry March brown and managed to get 1 to the net. Other fish caught on a copper John.

1 rod fished spiders - single trout, the other a dry fly (Jingler) accounted for 3 including a 1.5 pounder .
Rain held off until later so a warm still day with plenty rising mid pm.
Lovely beat, very accessible.
