Rivers have been so low – but a bit of water on the gauge so we thought it worth a chuck. Not sure where the water was coming from …. None of the gauges up the catchment , including the Elan, looked as if they had seen water. But there it was – cold too, so do suspect dam release.
Wherever it came from the fish didn’t like it! Little by way of insect life either, although Mr kingfisher was showing us how to do it. We finished with one salmon parr …. Never mind, the bad days put the good ones in context.

A beautiful location! I'm a beginner and the fishing here wasn't really suited for what i was trying to catch. I tried to fish the pool which I later read on the website isn't suited for the fly. That being said the gutters just above had a number of trout rising in the early morning when i first got there (7am). Afterwards it all went silent until a huge brown trout jumped out of the pool around 12pm. I honestly thought it must have been a salmon at first but I remember seeing red spots on an olive green body. All in all, lovely spot, probably more suited to salmon fishing or using the boat. Not fished properly by myself.

Beautiful stretch of water: lots of fly life. Level low and rises minimal (despite fly life). Caught trout on a ptn. Connected with one more. Young cattle were in the river but we were able to Usher them away. Guided by Justin Connolly who is a thoroughly nice guy as well as being an excellent guide.

Blustery day with difficult conditions but nice to be out and about , very low water with bouncing through pools that looked fishy for the odd salmon that maybe holding in the deeper pools .
Seems like Mr Otter found one though .. One trout had a lot of lice on .

Lost my trout net on the beat somewhere .. I know three anglers are fishing that beat today , maybe it will be found , if so happy to pay the postage for the return of it .. Thanks

The return – on a lovely soft day with occasional showers. We parked at the top this time but walked down to the bottom during the day, braving the bullocks en route. There were sporadic hatches throughout the day to get the fish looking up. Mayflies, yellow may duns, sedges and olives, which were largely what the fish were taking.

34 fish to hand with another dozen lost, all on parachute dry flies, constitutes one of the best days fishing we have had on the Wye and all safely returned. A dozen more came off. The majority were trout – best one 20 inches - but the grayling are getting warmed up too for the start of their season. Bad days are needed to put good ones in context and this was certainly good… with otters and salmon for company, what could be better? Also what looked like spawning activity in the shallows – shad perhaps?

Knotweed location sent on email. Thanks for excellent fishing.
