River was still slightly coloured and not too many fish rising. But they still come up for a dry! noticeable features this year are the welcome presence of many more small fish both trout and grayling and the absence of pesky piscivorous predators .. yet to see a cormorant or goosander on the river this year. All fish to usual parachute flies, no notable grayling today, best trout 16”. Others were one dace and one chub

Lovely beat - and a lot of water to explore. Only fished for a couple of hours but will be back.

went up for an evening session on the trout, first time on the Wye trouting. arrived 7is to a small rise, which grew to a good rise at about 9ish, only trouble was I could not touch a thing changing flies down to a size 18, but then noticed that the rise might not have been a trout rise, or better to say dace, shad, all mixed ,
Sadly to say nothing caught

a bit cooler than last night but still nice. Arrived about 7 walked up to the chapel run fish rising caught the first one no bother, 9inches, then I could not catch anything nor my fishing partner, went on to the wets, still nothing then hooked a Shad, strange indeed, we sat and watched , My mate said these are not trout they could be dace small chub or something , and sure enough next fish was a dace , two other trout followed but that was enough so it was a good rise just not trout

! dace and 1 shad

Weather conditions and river flow perfect. Lots of insect life but few fish rising. Hence mostly nymphing techniques used though some success with dries late afternoon. A beautiful and very accessible beat. Many thanks again to Fishing Passport making such beats available to visitors.
