Nice to fish this at near on summer levels, was able to wade the upper streamy water with no problems. french nymphed for a couple of hours and picked the bulk of fish up to beadheads then I moved down to the bottom of the beat as not seen it before and there was a steady rise of large fish but sadly most were in the feeding lanes on the far bank. Note for another time!! i netted 4 on dry all well over twelve inches . the rise only lasted 30 minutes and then the river died. One trout lost early nudging 2lb. an enjoyable day , sadly the grayling were far more active than the trout.

A tough day which was bright and with a cold downstream wind. There were some occasional rises to the sparse grannom hatches but otherwise, little surface activity. I fished the bottom section up to Llangoed rapids with both dries and nymph, which has some very attractive water for a trout fishermen. It is also probably the easiest wading I've experienced on the upper Wye over the flat bedrock. Looking forward to returning in more favourable conditions.

Sunny morning with afternoon becoming overcast. Cool light breeze. Steady trickle of LDO and grannom, very few rises so stuck to nymph patterns. Not much in the way of interest but we managed to connect with three fish, GRHE goldhead seemed to be the preferred lure. The river needs more water to bring it to life. Great day. We also enjoyed the fly past of two RAF Hercules flying up the valley.

Light hatch of grannom in am. Very few rises. Trout took gold head nymph, grayling took blue dun . Downstream wind a real pain.

6 out of season grayling to 12" on a black spider and beadhead hare's ear. Quite a few olives hatching stimulated fish to rise fairly freely at about 10am but much less so thereafter. A stiff downstream breeze mid afternoon made casting hard work.
