After fishing the Usk yesterday I knew that really it wasn't worth it until late in the evening so I only started fishing at about eight o'clock. Just about then there was quite a good mixed hatch with some yellow mays coming off amonst others. Still tricky fishing and spooky fish, very easy to put a riser down with a lack of stealth of a bad cast. In the end I chose to go slow and target rising fish missing a few and landing about half a dozen before the light was gone and the hatches pretty much over. A lovely section with a number of good riffles perfect for dry fly work at this water level which is very low at present.
Again thanks for the opportunity to fish these amazing beats and lovely rivers..

Very low and clear, hard going. There is a dead sheep on the boulder beach about 20 yards short of the far gate in the second field. I tried to find someone from the House to let them know but couldn't locate them. Looked fairly "fresh" as wasn't too smelly.
Otherwise lovely stretch of river but hard work getting near ultra spooky fish and fighting a nasty downstream wind. Hope to return one day. Would be a lot easier fished as a pair with someone helping to spot!

My first time here and a tough day fishing wise, river getting very low with very few aquatic insects coming off, the only real hatch of the day was of the tiniest upwings I’ve ever seen, these were then joined by a very limited number of larger insects, just enough to get the odd fish to show itself once or twice if you were lucky.
However I managed to find enough to keep me fishing dries and enjoyed some very stealthy wading targeting difficult fish but at the end of the day only one was brought to hand, this may sound like a lousy days fishing but it was thoughly enjoyable with fish lost and missed during the day. There are some wonderful dry fly flats which would make fantastic fishing with a decent hatch, I’ll definitely be back.

River very low, and the fish were concentrating more in the fast water and deeper pools. Very bright and difficult conditions all in all. 1 fish taken of about 1lb.

Very hot and sunny, very low water, very little surface activity. Used nymphs and drys. Nothing doing.
