Very bright day, spend few hours on the river from 12-5pm. Lovely day out!

storm brings water levels a tad higher higher but winds make casting hard. Only had a couple of hours, one missed. Nice stretch of water

A morning session with light nymphs fished on a French leader into the heads of the pools caught a few fish. This was proper stealthy fishing, not putting my head above the vegetation. I saw a good number of fish, some of a good size, but it was only the ones in the feeding lanes that could be caught. The largest was 16" but very fat and strong with the classic pink flanks and black spot Usk markings. I saw one Mink which is the first this season on the Usk, I think the Otters are keeping their numbers down.

Fishing was really difficult due to the hot weather and very low water levels as indicated by the returns.
We would like to thank the Wye and Usk foundation also many many thanks to the owners of Woodmans Parry Cottage for such a lovely welcomed stay and the advice from Mr Powell about the fishing area layouts we would certainly like to try the area around Brecon again. Thank you once again.

No easier than previous day and only fished til 2pm. Couple of small trout on dry fly in fast water. Very few rises.

Difficult day with temperatures in upper 20s, no cloud and very low water.
small trout up to 1 pound on dry fly especially from 8pm til dark.

What a lovely piece of water. I am making an error here because I think that I have spent too much time on the water at the wrong time of day. It was a very bright and warm day and barely a fish moved. I fished for hours without so much as seeing a fish. Took a break and went back on the water late. At around 8.30 a few fish started to move and at 9.00 I found two fish rising steadily in a shallow gravel run. I rose and missed one on a CDC spun dun, then rose the second and hooked and landed him. My first and currently only Usk trout and I was pleased as punch. I did hook another on a downstream drift with the same fly but the trout became unstuck just after the hook up. It was hard work and one fish for the day seems poor, but I had an absolute ball and I think that this is my favourite beat so far during my visit. Technically difficult and absolutely beautiful trout. Again thanks for making this possible.. Loving my time here.
