Evening ticket - fished 6:15-9:15. Stunning looking beat as always - the end of a very hot day, still over 22deg on starting.
A few fish showing, so switched to dries quickly. Rose several good sized (2lb+) fish at lower end of beat, some turning away after nosing the fly, and a few splashy takes - all frustratingly missed. Finally had an 8" WBT to hand - probably the smallest fish seen all evening. Low, clear river - but still one of the most stunning stretches around.
A flock (8-10) of goosanders half way down was not encouraging.

River very low and nothing much moving. I saw a parade of nine goosanders - spectacular, but maybe they had something to do with the lack of fish.

My first visit to the Usk. A very wet day, parked by the bridge (parking n2) and fished downstream.
Not many fish moving but caught 3 small trout the largest around 1/2 pound. 2 on midge larve and 1 on grhe nymph.

Also 2 salmon parr which was good to see.

Must say despite the weather that this was the most picturesque location I have ever fished.

Beautiful stretch of the Usk. Conditions were good - a little rain early on, gusty and warm. Plenty of fast flowing patches into pools. Few rises, so nymphs (mostly olive) were used which caused little trouble to the fish. 1 good fish hooked but not landed due to HIN.

Rain the night before brought the river up and colored slightly, but was needed. Fishing slow in the morning but a temp rise of a few degrees around 3pm got things going. Plenty of danica and LBD coming off for the next hour, one really solid fish taken on a deer emerger. Bigger insect life petered out followed by an awesome hatch of BWO, fish were totally focused on these for the next couple of hours, another 2-3lb fish landed with multiple smaller fish thrown in. A great day.

First time fishing this beat so was unfmiliar with the stretch.

The moring was very windy and I was fishing the lower section using a Tenkara rod which in hindsight was not the most appropriate method for the conditions.

In the afternoon I fished the upper section for around 3 hours using nymphs catching 4 and losing 2 (one being of a decent size). The largest fish caught was around 11" and the others were between 5-7".

I have fished this beat a dozen or so times in the last ten years. I hardly ever catch but keep coming back.I only covered a fraction today. A dodgy leg prevented waders and much clambering so I just fished what I could from the bank and exposed river bed. About 6 small trout, none larger that 12 cm, lovely Usk colours. All caught on various, tiny dry patterns in the foam line of the various pool tails. Saw dippers, wagtails, kites, swifts and a squirrel the size of a cat. Im sure I heard an otter squealing.
