All fish caught in tails of pools. Best one 17”. Idyllic day on lovely beat. Two points for other passporters. Even by the standards of the Usk there is very little shade - which is worth remembering for the summer - and the llanover syndicate has the other bank so you may not be fishing virgin water.

Arrived 10.30 am and was greeted by a nasty upstream wind which made casting hard to say the least. There was rain in the air which gathered force by early afternoon. The river was in great condition and not too high or low. Good clarity. The sand martins were out but aside from a desultory smattering of olives, no hatch really got underway. However, my team of spiders worked well with the partridge and yellow accounting for all three fish. Plump and feisty spring trout all around the one pound mark. A little less wind would be welcome please!

Hard work. Virtually no fly, and only an occasional rising fish. Cool, stiff wind didn’t help!

Two fish caught and returned on partridge & Orange spider from the bottom of the beat.
There was a big hatch of March Browns about 13:00 in the top glides of the beat but only a couple of fish on the far bank rising to them. A cold westerly wind picked up in the afternoon and put pay to the fishing .

Bright breezy day. Fished from 3 pm to 6.30 pm - nothing rising and very little evidence of activity in general. Easy access and wading and a lovely spot.

Hardly any fly life , despite a beautiful day … saw 5 fish rise once all day and managed to tempt 4 of them on a dark quill olive …. Several cormorants and mergansers on the beat
