Take the kids fishing they said!!!!!!!! Mmmmm!!
Not a bad beat for a few hours. River was low but in great condition.
A few rising fish and plenty of insect life about. We didn’t manage to tempt any to take our fly offerings. The fact that my 12yr old at one stage started throwing stones into the river didn’t help????‍♂️She was put right quite quickly.
Parking was great and a short walk to the river. Despite the synopsis on the Passports website nothing can be fished from the bank, you have to do some wading, thigh waders will suffice. The wading though is pretty easy all round.

Fishing Passport Note : At present, the current very low water levels will be a factor for not being able to fish from the bank.

A brisk early spring day on the Usk. 13 degrees with suit spells turning overcast. The wind picked up while I was there. Arrived about 10am and fished two spiders with a small beaded PTN with orange collar on the point . Picked up a lively 3/4 pounder quickly on the nymph. A very brief hatch occurred at 11.45 and then again an hour later. No more than 5-10 mins each time but it brought the fish up. They ignored my dry Jingler. Had multiple takes to my spiders fished downstream but they didn’t stay on. Picked another on the nymph before leaving. I hadn’t fished this beat before and even though there were a couple of dog walkers I enjoyed the water and will be back.

I'm a beginner and this was my first time on this beat. There was a good push of water through the deeper pools. I fished a floating short spey line with an intermediate polyleader. Water temp was 18 degrees. A brisk downstream wind meant I was having to double spey off my left shoulder which was horrible! ( But it was good practice)
I fished a 10 then a 12 Silver Stoat. No joy!
I saw a few trout rising but no sign of any Salmon.
