Blanked again. The river came very much alive, with many rises, just as it was getting dark.

On the river at 5.30. Condition good, river like tea at just over 1' at Llanstephan. No Salmon caught or seen. 6 Trout and one fine Sea Trout of 3lb that almost tricked me into thinking I had a Grisle on, it gave such a good fight. Great service from Wye & Usk as always.

Fished in the afternoon and evening. The river was very coloured and the level appeared to be gradually falling. Surface fish activity, as before this summer, came to life very noticeably around 8pm, despite very significant fly activity also occurring throughout the afternoon. I had the impression that fading light was the stimulus.
I had one fish of about half a pound, and hooked, but did not land, a couple of somewhat larger trout.

The river was just about right for the fly when I arrived at 10.30am. Clear and a reasonable height and I did get a pull as well as knocks from the odd brownie.
Unfortunately there must have been a heavy shower further up the valley and by 2pm there was a lot of silt from somewhere (farm run-off?) that must have reduced the chance of getting a salmon - the friendly trout fisherman who I was sharing the beat with was just as frustrated.
Hopefully the efforts by the Foundation in reducing this annoying feature of the Wye will eventually pay off.

Arrived at 7am to fish this iconic beat full of optimism which sadly was not fulfilled as we never saw a fish move. The conditions appeared to be perfect and was as good a days fishing as you could ever wish for but not a tug. Oh well there's always next week. WUF's service, it's usual exemplary self, including a lunch time injection of tactical honing from Stephen Marsh-Smith today. Thank you all.

Hot bright sunny day. Hooked and lost three small fish. A lovely beat and plenty of trout to be caught for those with a little more technique than me!

We had brillant weather at the start of the day, sunny intervals. However it did rain for most of the afternoon which switched the fish off. A great time was had by all. The five rods did not catch a trout of over one pound. Nevertheless were kept busy with fish of 5-8 inches. The wining combination was a weighted black GRHE sz14 on the point with a small spider pattern on a dropper 3 foot higher.
There was a problem with a group camping alongside the Ciliau run on the east bank. They were fishing when we arrived and has a large Canadian style canoe which they paddled up and down the beat. This was reported to W&UF.
We camped at Trericket Mill near the beat.
