Warm and sunny, river very low, just a dribble of fly life. No, not August but the middle of April. No really, what's going on!
In these poor conditions I was grateful for a fun and productive day. Keeping to the faster, broken water took 11 wbt and 1 out of season grayling. Typical wildies, 6"-10", all returned unharmed. Every fish fell to the weighted point fly (gold head ptn, green). No fish caught on my dropper (spider variants). Strange, my point and dropper usually share the fish.
There seems to be a really good head of trout on this beat and I know from experience that it is stuffed with grayling later in the year.
Thanks as ever to the WUF.

A superb few hours, fishing from 11am until 3.45pm. Caught over 30 fish, with a mixture of trout, grayling and some parr. Most caught on a nymph, but for about 30 mins during a rise of LDO's caught some on an olive emerger pattern.
Largest fish was a very nice 20 inch trout, which fought like a tiger in the fast water.

We missed the glorious weather by a week, the temperature returned to the normal April cool / cold. There was however some hatching activity but very few fish showing. I caught 2 Grayling (on one cast), they obviously didn't know they were out of season. One small brownie at the end of an excellent day.

Another great days fishing. A couple of dozen Trout to about a pound. Olives making an appearance throughout the day. Plenty of grannom comming back to egg lay though I didnt see any hatching.
Fish came to both dries and nymphs during the day, mainly in the faster water. Fish were active all day despite the relentless bright sunshine....role on May.

Saturday saw the first of the trout courses for the year, we had three attendees. During the day we covered traditional wet fly techniques and Czech nymphing.
All in all nine fish were caught with everyone catching something. The best fish was a beautifully conditioned but out of season Grayling that came out of a very fast shallow run during demonstration of Czech nymphing.
The odd fish could be seen moving through out the day and although I saw non hatching, plenty of Grannom were on the water

Good days fishing. Plenty of activity through the morning and afternoon, although the evening got a little quiet.
Fish up to around a pound, mainly in the faster water rather than the flat glides. Lots of salmon smolts evident in the pools and runs. Large dark olives and quite a few Grannom about especially the adults coming back to egg lay in the afternoon and evening. A few fish moving to the dries, fish however mainly taken on small nymphs pheasant tails and hares ears.

Perfect fishing day. Rise started about 11.45 continued till till 5.00. Numerous trout to 14" and a few grayling. A mixed rise of flies - few grannom odd march brown, iron blues and a few dark olives. River showing its bones - you can now wade across to the other bank. Best to fish the runs. Caught most fish on ginger sedge this colour I find I can see best in most lights. It was worth plugging away in the fast runs again and again. Some heavy tugs and one break from fish unseen. Lookimg forward to next visit.

A beautiful place but I found it quiet in relation to fish activity. 4 grayling caught on a brown klinkhammer down off the planks at the lower end of the beat. Around 1.5lb each.
Not much activity in the evening when the magic hour brings them all up. It was made worse by my clumsiness falling in and getting soaked too! A wading stick is a must, along with spare clothes!

A great return to this lovely piece of water, 6 browns, 4 quite small but two of about 12/13 inches all returned. In the afternoon had a 1 1/2 lb Grayling returned without touching the fish, caught on GH olive.
