We did not fish the last two beats. There is a fence which blocked our passage and I did not feel like wading across at that point. It was most enjoyable nonetheless.

River just fishable at 1ft, but no salmon seen or encountered. 3 trout to 13" and a grayling of 14" suggested I would have been better off targeting them. Quite a few repairs are needed on the beat, including a dodgy stile and, particularly, the upper planks, which are now jutting at a crazy angle above the water.

What a beautiful spot. Be careful not to miss the parking gate, its a sharp turn right off the main road. Started fishing around 11am and was struggling to identify what I should be fishing with as I couldn't see any fly life. The water was also still relatively low and clear. After many changes of tackle, I settled on a klink and dink setup. Around the gravelly run I caught my first trout of the day, a tiny fish that I must confess I first thought was some weed I'd caught as I was stripping in. Then, a 10 yard march upstream lead me into one of my best fish of the day on the nymph, a good 1lb brown trout that put up a great fight (Right at the bottom of the gravelly run). Shortly following that was my first ever grayling, brilliant!
Then I hit nothing for a couple of hours and decided to switch it up to a dry olive when the clock hit 5 o'clock. More fish followed, including another beautiful grayling. All in all a great spot, and a lovely day.

What a beautiful day for fishing. Fished 9 till 5; no breeze, 16 degrees, mainly cloudy, and water a surprising 15 degrees after yesterday's rain resulted in a small rise in river levels - so where were the bugs? Having been out a couple of times on club waters on the upper Wye and Usk recently, they are currently in short supply for sure and today was no exception. But fish have been looking up and they were today as well. Apart from some midge, very few small upwings and some sedges on occasions, there was no fly and consequently, apart from something which got a few fish rising between 12 and 1 (which all took a small pale HE emerger), there were no rises. Tried nymphs early on and had a couple of ladies, then tried duo and took fish on the emerger so, for better presentation, switched to it alone and then took fish throughout the afternoon, none of which were rising. Grayling from 8-14 inches, and trout to 10 inches and couple of chublets. Small pale HE emergers are great at this time of year for getting fish off their backsides, and today was no exception. As noted by an angler a few weeks back however, the instability of the stile in the middle field is a serious "accident just waiting to happen". The squashed stock-proof fencing just above it has clearly been crossed before and I would recommend crossing it instead, though maybe it may not stay stock-proof too long. Can WUF please ask the riparian owner to mend the stile - it's wonky and rotten, been there for as long as I can remember and is now well past it's sell-by date and is becoming dangerous! A lovely day on a beat which invariably delivers.

Lovely day on the river the highlights being my friend Alan's first decent fish on the fly - a nice grayling followed by his amusing (to me at least) first dip in the river. Most fish to a dry CDC olive - fish were moved regularly throughout the day.

River was in flood due to heavy rain the day before, water was chocolate brown and presented very difficult conditions , still was able to produce a couple of fish, from the somewhat submerged boards near the hut.

Enjoyable days fishing, water slightly coloured so wading difficult. Managed to find a few small browns in the margins, all caught on a size 14 PT nymph. Grayling picked up in a deep run on heavy tungsten pattern.

River low and still falling but water temperature seemed OK. A few sedges and olives around but very few rises. All fish were small, and caught using dark shrimp on long leader with dry on dropper. No sign of any fish bigger than 8oz. Maybe if I'd stayed till dusk …. A lovely section, much more interesting than my last visit as I can see so much more of the river bed and its boulders. That will help when the salmon return.
(WUF please note that the stile in centre of (RH) beat has decayed and is now very dangerous. )
