Nice wide beat, probably better in lower flows but 6 nice wild browns up to 12" taken on downstream nymphing with perdigons and GRHE. Sewers at bottom of beat were a bit whiffy though!

A cold wind blowing down the river on a grey day. Certainly some fly life coming off but hardly saw a rise all day. Managed to get one nice, fully finned little trout on a duo nymph - saved my day! Safely returned. Nice to be out on the river despite the conditions. Thanks WUF.

Very cold start nothing showing until about midday, we did have a few fish on and off but only the one landed. We were using nymphs all day, only spotted three rises all day, definitely a decent head of fish and a very nice piece of water I will definitely be giving it another go.

9 x trout 9-12 inches, Olive Duck's Dun, Deer Hair Emerger, Hare's Lug and Plover. The upper Usk was about the only stream which wasn't in flood today, and even here we started with high, cold water and a distinct brown stain. The recent cold snap had spread some snow on the hills and there was a chilly wind. Hard work at first although a gentleman fishing nymphs told me he had been successful. The sun peeped through after lunch, the water was dropping and clearing and a few March browns and spring olives provoked some rises so that there opportunities with dry fly and spiders.

A quick hour between 12-1pm nothing hatching so no rise, fished the French leader with a couple of small drab jigs due to the clear water conditions. Landed 6 small WTB to 12in.

Caught on nymphs, spiders and dry flies, trout up to 1½lb. There was a hatch of mostly March Browns and Large Dark Olives 12-1, and a brief rise. Full sun all day was unhelpful and the water was very clear. But a nice day and saw dippers and plenty of kingfishers

Short session at lunch break. 3 fish on the duo, best 15 inches and a very well conditioned fish. The odd MB on the water but very few risers.

North westerly wind was more lively as the day went on, making casting difficult. Sun brighter too in the afternoon, despite cloudy forecast. Few fish rose and not many flies anywhere along the beat.
Small trout took march brown wetfly and managed one rise to Adams dry fly. The advertised parking at the end of waterworks lane was unavailable. Access gate was padlocked by local Fair organisers.
I felt the booking admin fee for the Breconshire beat ( at 20% of the day ticket) was a little steep.
