An exploration trip to Rheidol mainly due to lack of photos and information on this Llyn. The track is definitely a 4x4 track. To be more precise a Land Rover or pickup track. If walking is required this will only add to the experience of fishing here as the scenery is spectacular.

On this occasion and due to the weather the pick up was a welcome addition to the kit! Strong winds and sporadic rain featured for most of the session. 1130 - 1700.

Due to conditions mainly only fished along the right hand side that offered the most shelter. No fish rose at all during the session. All 8 were caught prospecting within approximately 20ft off the bank as casting out into the Llyn with the wind was very challenging. Beetle patterns produced very little interest which was a surprise.
In the first hour I rose 9, on the fly pictured - hooked 7 and lost all 7! Including very nice fish of about a lb at the net!! Must have packed the rubber hooks!!

Returning to where I started I swapped to a white moth and landed 2. Several patterns were tried but only the pictured pattern really produced any interest landing 5 out of the other 6 fish. I would think subsurface/wet flies would be deadly here.

These fish fight well above their size and are well worth the time and effort to get to the Llyn.

Hopefully these pictures and notes of a wet and windy session will get Rheidol the attention it deserves.

Its a 50 minute uphill stomp to the llyn, the track is doable in a 4x4. It was blowing a fair bit by the time I got up there, limiting me to the east bank. I dragged a foam hopper through the chop and had plenty of action, landing 9 trout and missing as many. It was a great couple of hours. Beautiful up there. I spent the afternoon at Pond Rhosrydd (another AAA water) but came away with nothing.

I went to Llyn yr-oerfa late afternoon (after fishing Llyn lygad rheidol) and caught two lovely brownies

No fish showing and a lot of weed in some areas made conditions difficult. 1 small brown trout (beautifully coloured) caught on a size 12 butcher. 45 minute walk in from the road up the track. This water probably fishes better in May/June when you can see a lot of fish rising and there is less weed. If you are fishing the Aberystwyth club waters you may wish to go to a location where you can fish a few waters in a day as the fee for this water alone is quite expensive.
