Beautiful, quiet beat. Due to the warm sunny conditions I only fished the evening and had most success right at dusk with an 8lb barbel, and the biggest of the chub at 3.5lb, caught on ledgered pellets. Also had 2 nice perch on a tiny spinner.

River very low. Fished 2nd peg. About half way across slightly deeper water. Fished feeder with hemp and meat on the hook.fished 6am to 2pm, too hot after that. Water gin clear. Could see barbel flashing as they moved up and down stream.

Arrived Thursday evening to a very slow moving lethargic looking river. Forecast was not all that promising (for fishing) but that didn’t seem to matter. Bait out and a good swim rest before the rods went out. The bites came instantly! Barbel after barbel with lots of good sized chub making an appearance in between. By Friday evening we’d landed 13 barbel and countless chub to a good size! Bait out last light then fished a few hours on the Saturday morning seeing another good sized barbel and 6 proper chub before we packed up and called it a day (water was very warm). A red letter session for us.

Lovely to get back here , few changes nice to see the lock been redone . Very tricky conditions and a couple steep pegs didn’t help but nothing interested few takes on dry fly which luckily left the fly gear in , nothing on bait . Top swim footpath almost gone very narrow . Unfortunately other people fishing on opposite bank on dug out steps messed up my plans on fishing at very top of beat .

I suppose when booking beats 6 months in advance you never know what the weather will be. Hottest day of year so far and an absolute belter., but first of all a huge thank you to CB from Bradford on Avon for suggestion of taking a rope.
I bought a rope, took it but didn't use it to access the swim, but very useful when I fell in, complete with ruckbag. There was 3 foot drop from river to bank, an undercut bank, and soft mud/silt to stand on. Impossible to get out. About 10 yards downstream a tree and fallen into river giving a space to get out and crawl up the bank with the help of the rope and Chris pulling me in.
I will be taking a rope whenever I fish the Wye in future and also ensuring that there is at least 2 of us fishing, just in case.
As for the fishing we tried different swims, tactics and baits but couldn't buy a bite.
Great beat, shallow at best of times. Please also remember to print off latest beat details, which I hadn't, and of course the code to enter the beat has changed. A huge thank you to WUF / Alison for answering the phone and giving us the correct code.
