River running very fast and coloured. Tricky to keep hold - using 4oz feeder with pellets. A lot of weed coming through caused phantom bites. Banks were very slippery following flooding earlier in the week, which made access very tricky.

Knew it would be difficult with low temps, so opted for fishing small particles. The Chub certainly obliged, as did one rogue Sea Trout, but the Barbel were elusive. Lovely stretch. Will be back!

Very hard fishing. Tried spicy sausage , halibut and cheesy garlic wafters, pellets and boilies different sizes too ,plus bread for chub and meat for barbel. One maybe 2 bites all day fished from 9 till 6:30 (dark) river was low and no colour so that might have had something to do with it. Very slippy when wet beat so be careful. Few snags on the far right peg in the middle part of the river.

No wind and mild. River rising slightly, with some colour. Lunchtime on brought the action. Banks very slippery in areas, so bring a bank stick. Feeder and pellet.

This was our first visit to Upper Breinton. Arriving at the gate into the field we found that the combination padlock was broken and hanging loose. The gate was partly secured together with some string and elasticated rope.

The drive down to the river was straightforward and we could park at the rivers edge. This is a small beat with only 6 or 7 fishable swims but enough choice for the two of us.

My fishing buddy John fished from a nice comfortable swim in the first field and I chose the first swim just into the small wooded area. Mine was a lovely looking swim which could have been so much easier to fish with a bit of maintenance of cutting back branches both above me, to aid casting, and also to remove benches growing out of the bank in front of me.

All the fish we caught came early into late afternoon, Barbel up to 8lb and the best Chub was 4lb, all fish coming to meat.

Unfortunately due to one of our party slipping and hurt knee, gave it a miss today and tomorrow.

Lovely beat but like most rivers the Wye is in need of some rain. Very low and clear. The banks are a bit dodgy , the ones at the upstream end are probably the safest. The lock on the gate was broken. When we left half the gate had fallen over and the sheep were loose in the road. Alyson informed.
