Nice little beat. All fish on feeder and pellet. 8 chub roughly 3 to 4lb, rest smaller chublets. Barbel 4 to 5lb, other fish dace.

Parked at the top in the lay-by - track wouldn’t have been passable following rain in the afternoon.

River high, pushing through and coloured on arrival with all of the expected feature obscured. Was not expecting much fro the day but an obliging dace stirred my spirits and the chub put in regular appearances throughout the day. River fell steadily throughout the morning and by the afternoon the fish were feeding confidently. The two barbel were in superb condition and the larger of the two was around 8lbs (weighed) and a truly beautiful fish. Seeing it rise out of the water and show its flank before diving away into the depths is what fishing is all about for me. A lost barbel told me it was time to call it a day. I was more than happy and this is a beat I know I will return to. Many thanks to the landowner for allowing me to park up and sleep in my car the night before to minimise my driving (having been in the area the day before and wanting to avoid a double trip). A very peaceful overnight stay and not a bad spot to wake up to.

Great fishing, I now know where chub go on summer holiday ....and they love their meat!!
As previously mentioned..... banks today were the Eiger ,I manufactured my own safety ropes anchored to my van but literally fell over virtually each descent/ascent. I was Bambi on ice !! Im black and blue but fishing was great .Barbel came on ledgered pellets ,chub trotted meat.
Also as previously mentioned don't go in either field if wet even if dry beforehand. I got well and truly stuck and spent a long walk and 2 hours to find a very kind fella , who, on a Saturday night , helped me out of my predicament...Thank you Robert and your tractor!!!

First time on this tiny beat and worried about the drive down which was no problem. Started off fishing for barbel - saw a couple on the near bank. No joy but chub on meat, Went on to waggler with hemp and corn for epic action from chub from 12oz to 3lb - so many lost count. Even more big dace - lovely to see them boiling on the surface. Virtually a fish a cast on the waggler. Met Gordon the owner - lovely chap who pointed out an interesting far bank rock ledge which holds barbel. Tried for them at the end of the session but just chub to meat and various sized pellets . Despite its size I was extremely impressed with this peaceful beat not far from Hereford with its sparrow hawk and buzzard action in the giant trees opposite.
I will certainly come back to try for the barbel on the waggler.
ps picnic benches make for a nice lunch break. pps bring a rope and dog spike if you are not nimble.

Day 2 for me on Upper Breinton got off to a slightly later start than planned after being unable to gain access to the campsite I was booked in to and sleeping in the car park. By the time a bankside breakfast had been eaten it was close to 7 when I got fishing. There seemed to be a slight drop in the intensity of the fishing with a slight drop in temperature and a little drizzle in the air but chub from around a pound to almost 4 lb came all day long to feeder fished halibut meat and pellets. A barbel around 6 lb came along mid afternoon as did the sun and the chub kept on coming. Another similar sized barbel as evening fell signed off my first and hopefully not last visit to Upper Breinton (or is it Breinton Common?)
The misty drizzle earlier appeared to have dried off entirely as it did get quite warm in the afternoon and the drive back up to the road was fine, with a couple of little slips until I got to within about 20 feet of the gate and all forward motion stopped. So I tried sideways, little backwards, find a flat bit etc. until eventually by going to the bottom of the first field I was eventually able to find some flat ground to build up some speed to make it out of the gate, with the last few feet a real struggle. I wouldn't try it with any dampness around unless you have a proper 4x4, not an overweight Hiace. I'll be back with better tyres.

Whilst originally from Cheshire I now live in Ireland and after buying a campervan a couple of years ago plans were made for a 2 week fishing/social holiday in the UK with the centrepiece of a week on the River Wye. While I do plenty of fishing over here, this was to be my first barbel fishing in 30 years and my first sight of the River Wye and what an introduction. The drive down was a little nervous having heard some of the horror stories but the way was clear bar a few clueless sheep and the bankside parking is splendid. You can understand the description of this little stretch as the "honey spot". I've since heard stories of fish holding spots at either end of the fishery but the comfortablest peg near the middle, with the rocky ledge jutting across the river looked favorite to me so I settled there armed with a new rod and seat and some unfamiliar bait and tackle items. The first fine chub of the day was soon in the net, followed by plenty more to feeder fished hair rigged halibut meat or pellets, then a barbel around 7lb. Delighted. Fish, including large chub were swarming the feeder when it hit he surface. Kingfishers, very noisy squabbling sparrowhawks, all against the backdrop of the virgin looking far bank with the tall trees looming upwards. Had things gone otherwise the highlight of the day may have been the 3lb+ perch which after a long and dogged fight spat out a 6oz chub at the net. A few dace and chublets on trotted corn provided variety and the feeder kept the quality chub coming along with another similar barbel to cap off a fantastic introduction to the river Wye.

2 anglers fished. Water low as expected, little flow. All fish caught on meat, mostly trotting. Most fish 1lb to 1.5ln, two over 2lb, three over 3lb. Enjoyable day, but hard work in the conditions and heat.
