Cracking March day down on the Wye nothing better than a bit of Spring; nice easily fishable beat for 1 or maybe 2 rods for a day. No Salmon but had a nice fat 18lb Pike hooked on the opposite bank that gave me a merry run down the river as it kited across the current.

The Wye is the place but not sure about the increase in day rates which has left me priced out on many of the other beats; maybe not the best way to encourage anglers onto the river. Thanks all the same.

WUF Note : Prices have increased on only three Wye Salmon beats this year.

River in poor condition weird brown stain to it. Ive seen it like this before and have never done any good. Today was no exception, no fish and couldn't get any bites. Tried all the favourite places. Enjoyed the walk and scenery and will be back again later in the winter.

Having caught 2 3lb chub on the first few trots down the swim I chose on red maggot I thought I was in for a field day. Then I waited seven hours for another.
Nice to be back on the Wye, shame we struggled so much.

Fishing wise a very difficult day, must have tried 6 different swims throughout the day and never able to find any feeding barbel. The two chub came, not surprisingly in the last half hour.

We arrived at the Fishery at 7-30am to find the river low and clear. I managed to catch 3 chub on pellet to about 4lb from under a tree about halfway along the stretch up to 3pm. After speaking to Glynn he advised us to fish the fast water at the top of the stretch. We tried various methods and baits to tempt the barbel but all to no avail. Low and clear water meant we were going to struggle which proved correct. We just got our timing wrong but living 120 miles away it is difficult to visit at the drop of a hat when the river is in top condition for the barbel. Maybe next time! Lovely accessible stretch!

River level increased overnight and pushing through making it difficult. Had a 7lb 12oz early from the middle of the river 150yds d/stream of the hut. Caught the other 2 (and the chub) in the afternoon from the top of the stretch just below the rapids, best of 8lb. All fish caught on pellets/PVA bag method.
Had an interesting chat with the new Ghillie, Glynn who gave me some great advice, which resulted in the 8lb fish. As always on this stretch, great day

First time on this beat, once onsite access to the banks is excellent throughout the entire stretch, with stunning surrounding scenery.
We focused our efforts on the lower stretch, and with the river looking in perfect condition we were expecting a successful day, however the fish were difficult to locate in any numbers, the barbel we did catch all fell to pellet feeder & meat and were in perfect condition with the best weighing 81b 10oz.

Having visited 4 different beats throughout this week it would appear that the barbel are not shoaled up in any numbers and that recent variable weather conditions have contributed to the fishing being somewhat more challenging than usual, roving techniques are a must.

We will definitley be returning to this stretch.

Day one: 16 pound pike. Day two: One small Barbel. We were informed that a Large otter is on your Beat, eating your stocks of barbel so therefore was not impressed with your beat. We never saw anybody in the two days we fished
