Having had a bit of a shocker the day before on Holme Lacy, this session was an unbelievable difference. We found where the barbel were living caught them throughout a hot cloudless day on float fished pellet.
One of my best days on the Wye. Will be back for sure.

Loads of barbel in the shallows but hard to catch. Had one on feeder and a stack of chub and dace on the float. Weed coming back and beat looks great. The walk across the field was fine, could push a barrow if needed no probs.

Certainly an issue here with anglers on opposite bank, and Eastern Europeans at the Luggs mouth end fishing where ever they wanted. When I told him I had paid to fish here, he said “fishing is free!” I told him that the owner might have a different opinion!
He then left back to his family on the opposite bank

Cracking start to the day with breakfast at the Green Man in Fownhope. After parking up we realised it wasn't possible to walk down the edge of the field, but the farmer had created a tractor path through the wheat straight to the river.
It was a cloudy but warm day and the river looked in good condition. We walked downstream to the croys. For Chris it was his first time fishing the Wye and first cast his rod hooped round and a 3lb chub graced his new landing net/pole.
We fished probably 11-6 and finished with 7 chub to 4lb, all on garlic meat, no sign of any barbel though.
A great, lightly fished, beat with easy access and a slightly longer walk which was easier going back having caught some fish. Thanks to WUF and the land owner for giving access to waters like this.
