Did not fish - too hot!

saw several rising fish in the deep slow saters upstream of the foot bridge and roll cast a blue dunn to drift and hooked a good size Allis Shad (Alosa alosa).
unexpected fish that gave a good account running several times even tail walking like a tarpon.
revived slowly and returned alive and well.

They enter major rivers in South Wales around May and June to spawn. While they resemble a large herring or a "mini tarpon," they are predatory and will readily hit a dry fly or trout streamer. [1, 2]

Conditions were perfect , light wind , warm and overcast.
Tough day though, had a couple of fish during the day (and a random chub) .
I waited for the evening rise , but it didn’t happen .
Lovely beat, badly overgrown in the upper section of the beat , could do with hacking back a bit for access.

Nymphs only as there was very little hatching and no fish on the surface.
Two very fine Usk fish in our catch.

Fished for the day searching for risers, short hatch late afternoon led to 2 in the net best about 2lb. Great to on the river in mid summer!

Lovely but tough day searching for risers, not much of a hatch but great to be out - found a few midge feeders later. Stumbled upon 3 large giant hogweed plants among the Japanese knotweed while trying to get to the river opposite the waterworks - if in doubt be vigilant!

Great varied beat and by any account good value! Small hatch late afternoon had one on an Bob Wyatt's brilliant DHE. Lost a bigger fish I stumbled upon rising in the woods and a few while drifting a streamer around - Mid summer fun!
