Arrived at 6am hoping to get a barbel before the chub moved in river was still up and coloured but dropped about 6 inches while I was fishing,the only barbel came on my third cast then as usual it was chub after chub in the 3lb -4lb range and 2 at 5lb 4oz and 5lb 9oz until I left at 12am.Groundbait feeder with hemp and pellet and meat on the hook accounted for all fish.

Really fun day and 2 personal bests for Chub and Barbel. Great fishing and wonderful wildlife in an extremely peaceful setting. But the path to the pegs at the end of the stretch desperately needs the undergrowth trimming back. Walking down there with an electric fence on one side and brambles, nettles and overhanging trees sticking out into the path and catching your gear and rods isn't appropriate. It should be comfortably wide enough for an angler to walk the whole stretch carrying their gear (rod bag, carry bag, net and chair) and at a lot of points towards the end of the beat it's not even half that. I'd like to come back but not if this isn't addressed. A few kayaks who were all very respectful and courteous.

2 Barbel, 11 Chub

Late afternoon evening session arrived at 3-30 and fished until 8 hoping to pick up a barbel but unfortunately another chub fest at Holme lacy 17 chub between 3 and 4lb and one worth weighing at 5lb 9oz groundbait feeder with hemp and pellets and meat on the hook accounted for all fish.The path could still do with some maintenance brambles everywhere.

Decent conditions on the day and constant sport. All fish in great condition and returned strongly. Barbel later in the day.

Ps had 43 chub and a very brave dace, BJ had the rest. Fished the afternoon from 1-7 mostly on the float. Lovely day

Was really pleased to get a day here as it's normally fully booked. Many years since I fished it and has certainly changed - much less open bank but still loads of easily accessable swims. Mate fished off one of the croys, I took the long walk to bottom section, which is now quite a tight walk between trees & barbed wire fence. Still a lovely beat and look forward to hopefully fishing it again.

On arrival we looked at the river levels and walked to the top end spraying s few pellets in swims we fancied. Then we started setting up at the end bend, and got ready for another day on the Wye. We all fished near each other as Andy is a river novice and David isn't as young as he once was (who is) so we thought it best to be on hand for each other. Andy had dug out his Porky Pig mk2 for the occasion got set up and had his first cast into the Wye, within minutes his rod wrapped round and he hooked and landed his first Barbel. 6lb. I hadn't even cast in at this point, but as soon as I did i started getting knocks on the rod. David caught a Barbel at around 5lb soon after which I netted and returned fully recovered. We had action throughout the day catching on meat, pellets and elips small boilies.

The wildlife we saw was fantastic, kingfishers chasing each other, herons, various birds of pray. On the far bank a couple of mink were chasing ducks and a young cormorrant was working further down stream. A great day, it went quiet at between 1 and 5 pm when the sun was at its worst but then came back to life. We left at 7pm as my father in law didn't fancy the walk in the dark but by then we were content.

Baits used hemp and halibut groundbait in 30g feeder
2ft hooklength to either meat or small 8mm pellets. P
The river is low but the fish were in good nick and went back well rested and strong.
Biggest Barbel 8lb all the chub were between 3-5lb
We actually lost count of the chub so I've put 15 as a very conservative estimate. Again a good day on the Wye, I do like this stretch.

14 Barbel, 15 Chub

All fish to meat and pellet. Had fish from three different swims along the beat. Last minute small chub grabbed by a pike that held on to the net then decided better of it. Fun day thanks to the passport
