A lovely day on a nice beat.
Enough fly fishable water at this level to make a day of it. It seems everything other than a salmon wanted a taste of my fly today including a pike of about 20lbs! Released and on its way without even leaving the water.
The holding water here will surely hold some fish as the season continues. The quest for a springer continues!

Multiple barbel had come from here 5 days in a row and today was a day too far - 'past results have no bearing on future.....' So despite great conditions including a 9.1 water temp we had just one between the 4 of us from 6 swims on a range of methods and baits. Not many Chub up the top either but loads down the bottom (23 between two of us) the pick being a lovely clean fish at 5.10 for me. It was a frosty start but only half a degree colder in the water so maybe the pressure of the last 5 days told? That's fishing. One more go and 3 months of purgatory on the puddles. My best season on the Wye though, so thank you WUF.

The reports from the weekend suggested a good day lay ahead and my hopes were raised further when my thermometer returned a reading of 9.6 degrees. The flow was still good and the river had a green tinge. We started down the bottom on GB feeders and in the first 2 and a half hours had 2 barbel and 3 chub each. It then slowed to a halt for 2 hours before the old trick of starting to put my stuff away in prep for a move produced my biggest fish of the day at 8.12.
Moved up the top at 1400 where Gordie added 3 barbel and me one. So after not having had a barbel in 3 Wye trips Gordie had 5, one more than me. Back tomorrow with 3 other mates.....
