We fished during Storm Claudia. Driving rain, high winds and the odd big tree on the opposite bank coming down into the river. Usual barbel tactics were employed and all fish mid singles were caught on pellet.

Unfortunately down one angler with man flue, river looked perfect and bites were quick off the mark. Ventured down to the castle swims which were a lot of fun and safer in the mud fest, although this did not save JM from an early bath ! GW hooked a pike on a pellet on the drop. All in all a great day with probably the best back drop.

The river levels shot from 1.2 to 3.61 over night. The water was out the banks near the car park area, just in on the rest of the stretch. We found 1 fishable peg. We managed 3 barbel on the bank, biggest being 8.15lb. We lost more tackle than caught fish, due to snags moving in the swim during the day.

Had a great day. First time Barbel fishing for two of our group.

Hit the jackpot with the clear blue skies weather and the multicoloured surroundings in autumn were stunning. The river was up and coloured but predictable and steady for the whole day. Fished at the end of the long walk downstream where the Barbel frustrated us throughout the day and four being lost in snags or at the net.

Generally fished with open-end feeder and pellet hookbait leading to 21 chub to keep us going throughout the day. Our single Barbel landed was the last fish of the day.

Will definitely go and have another go soon.

Fish fairly evenly spread, after river rose 40cm overnight. Most action within first hour and half in any swim. Some of us could have packed up and gone home happy at midday. Expecting a big finish at last knockings but went very quiet in the last hour. Barbel the 4-5lb stamp and biggest chub just made 5lb.
