Very enjoyable day fishing midday to dusk on this beat but little fly life coming off and only a few fish seen rising during the day, the hoped for evening rise didn't happen. Other folks were enjoying the warm weather and river too around the Bell and downstream. Conditions meant scratching my head and trying different tactics to draw fish out from the likely lies (no joy) and so resorting to prospecting the riffles, heads and tails of pools and glides. Grayling tempted by weighted pheasant tails at heads of deeper pools, trout taken on nymphs.

A little out of practice. This was my first trip for a couple of years. Very little observable insect life and only saw a couple of rises. Fished for most of the day on a variety of dry flies and nymphs with zero success until, early evening, fishing with a nymph in the rough outflow from a pool I briefly hooked a grayling which escaped before I could land it. I had a second take (maybe from the same fish) a little later.
Weather was dry and overcast with some sun.
Great to be on this lovely little stretch of river again.
Have a feeling a more experienced angler would have done better.

Fished dry but nothing came to the surface. I suspect that it was too darn hot for the average trout. The river looked in great condition though. I'll try again next week when it's cooler. Nil return.

Plenty of takes and out of five fish on, only one landed but the best of the day. Beautiful 10" brown. Difficult day, slightly coloured water, bright sunshine and breezy day. Still some mayfly coming off but they didn't seem interested in that pattern. Caught on black pennell, silver Invicta and best fish on dry olive.

Excellent light Lunch at The Bell, then fished through to about 8PM. Warm with a period of heavy rain later. Nothing to the net- 5 takes, that's it. Couldn't get to my favourite pool from downstream due to a fallen tree. Clear water meant it was easier to find safe wading and I think I have found a replacement favourite.

Lovely afternoon/evening. Tough to start - very hot and bright. Once it cooled down a bit there was some really good action. All caught on dries - adams, cdc shuttlecock, griffiths gnat, little para thing. Towards the end there were fishy dimples everywhere but couldn't figure out what they were supping - in retrospect I think it was spent sherry spinners.

Two good trout on dries just before the rain started, and that seemed to kill the hatch for good!

The river levels were good and on arrival for an evening ticket the trout were rising to a mayfly hatch. Walked to the bottom of the beat to commence fishing. Three trout on a dry mayfly pattern. The rain then came and a cold wind seemed to slow thing down. Changed to a PT nymph and when fished in the faster waters with a quick retrieve brought bite after bite. A further three before the heavy rains came. Best fish around 8 inches but others around 4 inches.
Beautiful stretch and good access to the water. Value for money and will be going back.

A strange day on the river, so cold in the afternoon rain you could see your breath, in July!Lots of Mayflies about and plenty of insect life meant fish rising fairly regularly.
The fishing slowed down considerably when the rain started but we managed a couple more fish whenever there was a break in the weather.
Eight Trout and A Grayling between us all to various dry flys
