Not a particularly encouraging start , cold windy and dull.
Water very very low , very difficult to nymph so we tried, despite the lack of fish rising, tempting fish out of the margins with yellow may duns and Adams. Worked very well had about twelve fish between us, 4 about 8 inch the rest around 12. 2 of the smaller fish were grayling, the rest browns.

Stayed at the Wellington in in Brecon, clean room , ensuite, good breakfast, £46, not bad! Only problem no parking, but parked 2 minutes down the road

Fish were rising in the pool by the bridge when I arrived at about 12.30 - difficult to tell what they were taking as there were 2 kinds of olives, small paired black flies, the odd Mayfly, sedge, Turkey Brown and all manner of minute black fly and pea-green fly. Eventually started catching fish on an olive pattern and caught fish from a number of glides downstream over the course of the afternoon. Hatches came on and off so waiting game as fish responded. Best 2 fish were around the pound mark. Good and easy wading as per beat description and 2 kingfishers live there too !

As usual great service in booking - many thanks to the team

Eventually able to fish this beat for the 1st time, having been washed off twice, good old english/welsh weather eh? The water was very cold hence very little activity, I had and lost 4 of the smallest brown trout i think i ever seen, my friend lost just the one. All were hooked (all be it not for long) on a gold headed nymph. This aside the surroundings are lovely and we had a lovely pint in the Bell, I would say the same about the steak which it really was nice but just barely enough to fill 1 of the tiny little trout that had kindly grabbed at my nymph earlier that day. I will return though, as it really is a lovely beat!!

Warm and overcast with river slightly coloured but normal level. Expected a good day, turned out to be hard! Guided by Frank [Williams], we spent the morning french nymphing and picked up a couple of very good grayling and a small trout. Then nothing until late afternoon when there were some sporadic rises. Picked up 3 trout on a cdc & elk. Nice day, lovely piece of river but the water is still too cold for there to be a lot of action.

Beautiful day but sun was bit too bright I think. Fished the first fast run as I knew sun would shining right down if I left it till the end of the day. Tried some nymphs below a klink, got a snatch on the Klink, so I switched to dries, no takers unfortunately.

Walked down to the bottom section by the big house, some fishing risng in the slow section, got one decent fish 12" on an Adams, another two small ones 6inch?

Got another five small fish on dries during the day but fish rising. Clouds of those litle brown jobs hatching all day, Grannom? March brown? Perhaps the fish had stuffed themselves the day before?

Lovely weather, disappointing fishing. Lovely pint of Wye Valley India Pale ale at the Bell

Wonderful weather bright, sunny and cold but alas the fish were not as keen to come up and enjoy it. A few hatches during the day but no risers. Caught 1 lb graylng and 4 small browns 5". PTN GH hares ear nymph size 14 under a cadis indicator, 1 fish came to look at this. Great stretch with deep runs.

Absolutley beautiful day , lovely and warm , which helped dry me out after I fell in. Bit of a contrast from the last time I was here when I got stuck in the snow! Bit too bright for the fish though I think, caught 2 grayling 6 inch & 10 inch, two trout about 8 inch, caught this in a area sheltered by the trees out of the sun. A few olives hatching, no sign of any fish rising. Apart from the four fish caught around lunch time, the morning and afternoon were dead. Most unusual for this beat.

No fish caught but the Skenfrith beat is a lovely location, I met the owner and his wfie when I arrived and I had a very enjoyable day. This is the first time I have used the Foundation's services and I was most impressed with the online booking system and the very hepfull staff in the office when I rang to ask some questions. I will certainly be using the Foundation in the very near future.

Two small grayling and one small trout. All caught on a size 14 tungsten beaded black possum nymph. Very cold with very few fish around unless they were hiding in the deep pools. Don't expect a hearty large bowl of soup at the Bell as it is tasty but small portions available - great beer though.
