A tough day, despite seemingly good conditions. Overcast and for once quite calm. Nymphing produced nothing and only prospecting with large dry flies in streamier water produced any action. Three fish lost, including one estimated at around 3lb.

Just one fish on a small Adam’s. Tricky access to much of the beat with the build up of bankside vegetation over the summer. Lethal brambles!

The river was looking sparkling with the water down and clearer than the previous week. Despite this the fishing was quite hard work with some ‘banker’ spots seemingly devoid of fish. I finished with ten wbt about four above the pound and one at 1lb 12oz. A good day but not quite the end-of-season send-off I might have hoped for.

A lovely day fishing this beautiful stretch of river. My only complaint is it was too hot! River at a good height for fishing being 0.60 on the Ddol farm gauge. Four grayling to dry flies. The afternoon very quiet despite a few sedges coming off.
