4 trout caught - best 1 lb. Hot very sunny and very few olives hatching or any other upwings. The fish that were rising were smutting so a bit 'challenging' but great fun and enjoyable day had. Fish caught mainly on size 22 black gnat.

One small but very welcome trout in the late afternoon on a deer hair sedge. Challenging conditions with low water and bright sun but it was still possible to tempt a fish or two as as my fishing companions return will confirm.

2 small brownies in perfect condition, caught on grey duster. Had a few takes on a klinkhammer but were missed. Quite hard going, not many fish rising but a great day. Lovely meal in the Bell.

Five browns and one 15" grayling, the latter on a mini bead-head spider - all trout on march brown or klinkhammer. Some olives and march browns, a few grannom hatching, cold downstream wind and sparse rises.

Excellent lesson with Frank Williams - beautiful sunny day but water still very cold and fishing slow. One ot two dark olives showed after lunch and a few "takes" on small nymphs but not quick enough to connect. Lovely location.

Grand total of 5 LDOs seen despite some warmth in sun in the afternoon. Did not see a fish rise. River in very good condition but very cold and despite using every method was seemingly too cold for the trout. Beautiful sunny day though and enjoyed watching the circling buzzards and pair of sparrow hawks.

Fishing:Winter Grayling
No. of Anglers:1
2 x grayling 7 and 15 inches, 2 x out of season trout 10 and 11 inches, bugging with braid. I lost a good grayling at the top end at dusk. Very hard work to get those, although the Monnow looked in just about perfect condition, which is rather surprising with the high water elsewhere.
