Water came up overnight and was heavily coloured until mid afternoon. Dropped slowly but only a foot of visibility until late in the day. Not a touch until 5pm and then 3-4 trout in quick succession. No salmon but a couple seen in Rock and one seen in Gravel Catch. Tomorrow will be a day to remember for someone.

A fantastic red letter day. Drove up from London at ridiculous o'clock to be fishing by 8.30am. Simon Evans and Rod turned up at hour or so later. Had the first fish (13lb cock with a huge Kype) around 10am in the tail of rock. Shouted down to Simon who came up from bridge to net it. The second (an 11lb hen) came from just above the rock. The third ( 10lb hen) from the jet just below the rock. Simon will dine out on the 3rd. He told me I was overcasting and the next cast produced an immediate take. Mid afternoon, standing in the tail of rock and wishing I was a foot taller as the water sloshed over my waders I turned to pick my way back to the bank with the line trailing behind me and it ripped off. 10 seconds later I demonstrated perfect long range catch and release. Chris Ryan (Sportfish) turned up with a flask of coffee and his kids. Always a pleasure to see them all. The sun went down and I drove the 188 miles back to London. A fantastic day ! Finally, thanks to Guy Mawle for his support of the Wye Usk auction and to Ken Evans for the Willie Gunn Piglet that gave me 2 other salmon (15lb and 11lb) on Friday 6th from the Usk.

River 1ft 10" dropping 2 " during the day. Near perfect conditions and the beat looked magnificent with the trees turning and Hay bluff looming over the Glangwy. Rod I was fishing with missed one in bridge first up and then after some phone calls I started in gravel catch. Less than 10 casts later a coloured 10-11lb cock took a #8 bann twitched back through the slow water at the top. Several others showed while fishing the pool. Broke for lunch and after went hunting ceps; successfully. Spent rest of the afternoon/evening helping others catch fish, successfully in one case, unsucessfully in the other.

Beautiful sunny day on the river, water levels seemingly perfect. No fish or caught.
