Hot day today - reaching over 30 deg. so not a bad haul in the circumstances. Many of the fish were quite small but 5 trout and 1 grayling a 1/2lb or over and 2 of those (trout) about 1lb - so lovely fish. All caught on tight line nymphing techniques. We fished exclusively beside or just above the island at the bottom of the beat. We could not work out how to access the upper part as the pool in between on the right bank became quite deep even in these low water conditions. It would be a good idea to have a pathway through (the brush and undergrowth made the bank area impassable for access to the upper part of the beat). And some clearer instructions on access to the beat as a whole would be really helpful. As with much of the river Wye in that area its a brilliant place to spend the day fishing. Just need a bit more access to this particular beat.

Fished the bottom section for a few hours first thing, trout all the same size, about 6 ozs but fun to catch as missed several and a tiny grayling, all on nymphs.

2 out of season grayling, very healthy and of just under 1lb (ish). Taking the dry fly. Also lost another 2 on the dry.

Great beat, although it is difficult underfoot while wading, it's manageable if you're without physical restrictions. You definitely need studs/felt and a Wading stick for stability and checking depth in front of you.

More challenging is the access to the water. If you're not able to climb down difficult banks, or willing to plough through overgrown trees and bushes this one might not be for you. There is no obvious path and quite a lot of river that doesn't have bankside access. Pools are accessible via the water, but as mentioned be prepared to go steady and slow with water getting past your waist quite quickly if you get a bit too confident!

One of those beats that could be fabulous if someone tackled the access to the water.

Hopefully that helps others. I'd go back as the pools are great and plenty of fish activity.. I'm sure they weren't all Greyling!

Disaster. Freezing cold, snowing. The river was rising, and colouring up. A couple of salmon showing. Access to the river is unmaintained and very slippery where no bankside vegetation exists.

Started fishing around 14.00. Small trout almost immediately. In last 5 minutes of my day I caught my best ever grayling.
One or two other pulls but very sunny - not a lot of activity even into the evening
